Echo LAYLA3G Sound Card

Echo Layla3G Question/Problem

By 2Pansy - usenet poster

Hi there

Is anyone using an Echo Layla 3g soundcard ?

I have just installed one and the sound quality is really good except that I
get random popping noises which renders it useless to me.

I have spoke to Tech support and they have suggested a few things all of
which I have now tried lowering 'hardware acceleration and colour quality to
16 bits.

I did have an NVIDIA graphics card which they suggested may be the cause of
the problem so I have now changed that for a Matrox Millennium G400 dual
head. (fortunately borrowed as it hasn't worked'

I have tried increasing and decreasing buffer size 512 is the default
setting giving a latency of 12. something ms.

I have a Pentium 4 - 3gig chip and an ASUS P4P800 motherboard. 1.5 gig of
RAM.

Any suggestion would be welcome as I can't speak to them again until
Tuesday.

Many thanks

Martin

Have either of you tried changing the setting for the word clock to something different - such as from Internal to S/PDIF or visa versa? I found when connecting my Kurzweil 2600 to the Layla 3G, I needed to use the S/PDIF setting to avoid small pops / crackles in the sound reproduction. By using the word clock data stream from your source instead of the internal clock, Layla should set the clock to your source. Make sure the sample rate is not locked in the Layla - Console - Settings page. That also can contribute to the problem.

I think I may have worked it out. I loaded up the song I am currently
working on, which was created using a 16 bit soundcard, and I have changed
the settings of the project to 24 bit. However this isn't the complete
answer as if I change it back to 16 bit it still randomly pops and crackles.

If I start a brand new project it's fine at 16 or 24 bit. Can anyone explain
what's going on, and can I continue to work on my current project using the
new soundcard or do I need to start again??

Cheers

Martin
