Question about Tappan MEF500 Electric Kitchen Range
Hey there, Internet! I've got a Tippan Apartment Sized Oven model number MEF500PBWE. I've checked Tippan's Website and it appears that this model is discontinued and they do not have the parts for it. I'm in search of the middle oven knob for the range and I cannot find it ANYWHERE. Is there anyone out there who can help me find this knob? Even just a picture would help!

I suspect you may have a bad igniter. They will still glow nice and hot, but if they are weak the gas valve will not open. This is actually a safety feature. Depending on which type you have, the glow bar igniter is supposed to draw a certain current potential before the gas valve will open. Here's the current readings for both types: Round Glow Bar: 2.7 to 3.2 amps Square Glow Bar: 3.2 to 3.7 amps I would try to to determine if the igniter is good or bad before proceeding with a gas valve replacement. Generally, the igniter is a common fail item. Let me know if this helps.

I would suggest looking at how long before the bake burner ignites. If taking longer than 5 minutes before it ignites, then you are looking at a possible bad ignitor. The ignitors just don't last more than 5 yrs with regular use.

You either have a plug up in your flame from dirt etc.
or your valve needs to be replaced.
Try turning off the gas and getting to the burner and clean it first.

the gas pressure regulator can whistle sometimes. turn up the radio. (just kidding) I have had some new units that did this and replaced the regulator and it still did it! I was working as factory authorized service tech and my factory techline said it was a gas pressure thing. I was thinking it was the valve rather than regulator but tech guys said no. I don't know about that response but thats what I got.
