Pc connected to tv, image is fine, audio won't come out of tv

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5895 Notebook that I have connected to my Toshiba 37AV502U Hi Def LCD tv. I believe it is monitor ready, b/c all images are transferring to tv screen, but the audio will not come out of the tv...only out of the built in comp. speakers. I did buy an audio cable along with the neccessary cable needed to connect pc to tv in the first place. Audio cable is in the headphone jack on pc going into the pc audio in on tv, but still the only sound I'm receiving is from the computer. I'm not the most computer savvy, but am also not stupid....why isn't this working???? SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!

Had this same problem with my A215-S7416. Check the sound settings in the control panel. You most likely have a Realtek HD sound card, but have Microsoft drivers installed. The Microsoft drivers also provides a default selection for either the speakers or headphones. The Realtek driver only displays setting for the speakers. Go to the Toshiba support website, enter your model and check to see if there are Realtek HD sound card drivers. If so, download and install. That's how I solved the same problem you have with my machine. Good luck.

I have a Toshiba laptop L305D-S5895 and a Toshiba Hi Def LCD 37AV502U tv. I got an audio cable, that I have in the headphone spot & the original cable needed to connect the pc to the tv. I am getting all...

Which cables have you attached to your TV (the video and audio)?
Does the TV has left & right audio inputs (RCA connectors)?

When you attach a headphone to the laptop, the speakers on the laptop switch off and the sounds divert to the headphones. Try and connect a cable (stereo) from the headphone outlet on the laptop to the audio stereo inputs on the TV.
