Question about Whirlpool Calypso GVW9959K Top Load Washer
Dr, C1 occures when there is a spike of 25 amps or more on the motor windings. This can be caused by overloading, the drive motor itself or the motor controller. You need to do some tests on the motor windings to see if they are in spec. Easiest way is on the board. Using a putty knife, slide it under each end of the consol and press on the spring. Push up on the consol while pushing in. The consol will lift up. The motor contoller board is on the left. The P6 harness is in the center. With the washer unplugged, unplug the P6 harness. Measurements on the harness should read: From the red wire to white/black=3.1 ohms. From yellow to white/black=2.8 ohms. From red to yellow=5.9 ohms. Or if you want to read them direct at the motor. Remove the harness and at the motor, red to white=3.1, yellow to white=2.8, red to yellow=5.9. If you have a reading that is much higher than the posted a problem exists in the motor windings. If they check ok, then the problem is in the motor controller. It's up to you but I sure wouldn't put any money in this machine. It has been my experience that there is just too many failures on this model. Catriver.

Hi Scott Brown: Typically an error code E38 could mean a few things:
· First see if the air trap is clogged. If it is, that is probably the most likely issue.
· If it is not clogged, it could either be the main control board, the water valve assembly or the pressure sensor switch.
· To make sure it is not a false error code, reset the power to the appliance by either unplugging it or flipping off the breaker for about 30 seconds.
If the error code continues to display, I would strongly recommend contacting a professional to make the necessary repairs. Unfortunately, most electronic parts cannot be returned so it is always a good idea to get the appropriate diagnosis prior to making any unnecessary part replacements.
