Question about Dryers

Open Question

Kenmore 110.86983110 automatic cycle not working

I have a Kenmore dryer with the Automatic Fabric Care feature. It is recommended to use the Automatic Cycle on the dryer which is suppose to measure the moisture in the clothes and advance the dryness control accordingly. However, the control does not advance unless you run the dryer without any clothes. It will advance as it should if there are no clothes in the dryer. I'm not sure what item(s) should be replaced in order to get the Dryness Control to function properly with clothes in the dryer.

SOURCE: Gas dryer runs too long

Sounds like you need a new timer.

The timer probably has a cam on it which triggers a micro switch
which turns off the timer clock motor.

Cams are often held in place with a set screw which might
have loosened and it is slipping.

Micro switch may have gone bad or has become disconnected.
if bad it can be replaced with a moderate amount of work.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. No Heat issue in dryer is usually caused due to two things mainly: Thermal Fuse, Wiring Harness. Start with checking the Thermal Fuse which is mounted inside the back cover panel to the exhaust duct and is mounted in white plastic housing. If thats fine then the Heating Element should be checked. Please do revert for further assistance or else accept the solution if the issue is resolved.

Thanks

The electronic dryness control board is the issue, and it is quite common on this model, to go out, or be faulty.

There is a moisture sensor in the unit that tells the timer to advance. IT is not working. This could be a control board issue or bad connection.

Automatic sensor drying

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. As with most things each manufacturer seems to have their own terminology or "exclusive features" for their products. To answer your question, in a word...Yes. As a general rule "sensor" does indicate an "auto dry" cycle when properly maintained ( as long as the sensors aren't contaminated by way of "wax" build-up over the surface...clean regularly with a rag moistened by "white vinegar" if you us fabric softner or dryer sheets etc. ) and vented that will shut the dryer "off" automatically when sensing the items are dry...depending on the options and cycles selected of course. Hope this answers your question and thanks for visiting FixYa today. Please take a moment and rate the answer if satisfied or let me know if you require further assistance. macmarkus :)

Electric Dryer Shuts Off

During the auto-drying cycle, the moisture sensor could be the problem.

If it also shuts off prematurely during the timed cycle, the operating thermostat could be turning the heaters off before the machine reaches operating temperature. Another possibility is that the operating thermostat does not turn off the heaters at all. When the machine heats up, it gets too hot and the high limit thermostat turns the dryer off.

Works on all cycles except that on the Automatic dry Miser setting the dryer stops mid cycle. All other cycles work fine and run through the complete cycle.

Inside the drum is 2 long metal trips that measure capacitance in the clothes as they get dryer. Sometimmes liquid fabric softener gets on them and stops the process. Wipe them off. They are right on the filter housing inside just below the filter.

Kenmore HE4 Dryer

rmcfarland I am going to make an assumption. You are using the Automatic cycle. If so then this is wet load detection. Open the dryer door and at the bottom on the front you will see 2 metal bars. This is you moisture sensor. Clean that sensor with a mult purpose cleaner. If detergent and fabric softner sheets build up a coating on this sensor, the control will think you put in a dry load and shut down the dryer. Hope this helps.
