SOURCE: Zanussi ZWD1680W Front Load All-in-One... Problem:

With the symptoms you describe i would suspect a intermittent heater element fault as you are getting earth leakage current which is tripping the whole supply rather than a current overload which would just trip the socket circuit breaker. Get the heating element checked over first as this is the most likely cause.

You have a dead short either in your breaker box or the plug in. Chances are it is your receptacle.

SOURCE: hotpoint washing machine keeps tripping electric

First unplug your washer. Check the ground on the washer and make sure it isn't loose; this would be a good time to inspect the wiring harness for any problems. Next check the outlet (turn off the electric to that breaker first) make sure all the wires are tight and are making good contact; pay special attention to the neutral (white) wire. If that seems fine, and you are comfortable with going into you breaker panel, turn off that breaker and check the hot (the wire on the breaker) to make sure it isn't loose and then check the neutral wire. If either of these wires seem loose tighten them down....a loose wire will move when a load is put on it and cause the breaker to trip. If all seems normal and washer is still tripping the breaker you might want to replace the breaker.....they can go bad. Good luck!

Forgot to open water supply for my new washing machine and when it started flashing I only realized the problem. As soon as it washes it trips my main switch and says Earth Leakage????Please help!!!!!

Hello Dora,

An Earth-leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) is a safety device used in electrical installations with high Earth impedance to prevent shock. It detects small stray voltages on the metal enclosures of electrical equipment, and interrupts the circuit if a dangerous voltage is detected.

You should have an appliance service person come out for a service call since there may be a dangerous shock hazard present on the machine.

Thanks,
Mario

Washing machine water

Firstly, do you have water at the moment? Then, your power must be on and the taps turned to on - hot, cold or both.
Secondly, the cycle must be selected and activated; by pulling or pushing the control knob.
Still not working? Check power to the house. Switch on a house light. Does it work? Plug something else into the power point. Does this work. If not, then the fuse may be blown. ELCB (safety switch) may have tripped. Reset, replace etc;
Lights on but nothing working - then switch off, unplug the machine, turn off the taps and disconnect the hoses to the machine. Most washing machines have inline water filters and these can become blocked. Clean/replace and try again.
Beyond this it may be that the solenoids are broken and need replacing. A multimeter could confirm this.

Machine keeps tripping out when starting wash cycle - electrics have been checked by electrician - no problems- have managed to get it to spin but not to wash

Hi

The washing machine is obviously drawing too much current for the breaker to handle. This could be due to the washing machine drawing more that it should or because the breaker cannot handle the current the machine needs, coupled with the other machines on the ring main. If the fuse on the plug of the washing machine does not blow, then it could be that there are too many appliances on the ring main. The fuse on the machine may not blow however, if the breaker has a faster blow time than the fuse in the plug. Try plugging the washing machine into another ring main. Or try plugging out all the other appliances on the same ring main and test it out.

If the ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker) is tripping only when the washing machine is running then something in the machine is faulty.

One common problem is the heating element. Over time they tend to crack and when the water gets in, the ELCB will trip out. This can be problematic to diagnose as offten the element will only trip after a period of heating. Bottom line, if it is tripping the ELCB then it is dangerous and should be fixed before any further use.

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Sorry but with such a major fault it is virtually impossible for anybody on this forum to remotely guess what is wrong with your washer.

It could be internal wiring/plugs sockets, control panel switches, control PCB, water inlet control valves, door solenoid as primary suspects. Secondary suspects could be main motor, drain motor.
I fear that you only real option is a service call as the engineer will have the right equipment to safely diagnose what is wrong.
Sorry again and good luck,
John C

Maytag model GS2126PADW is tripping the ELCB. It will run for about one hour before tripping. After tripping, it trips the ELCB every time it is turned on. However if left off for an hour or so it can be...

The ELCB ( Electrical Leakage Circuit Breaker) is designed to detect any leakage of electrical current.
When the current leakage occurs, the ELCB then trips the electricity supply within a fraction of a second of the leakage being detected, before the magnitude of the current reaches a lethal level.
Therefore any possibility of serious injuries due to electric shock to persons who are in contact with the electrical appliance at that particular moment is minimized. Have a licensed Electrician check out your outlet and an Appliance Technician check your refrigerator if outlet proves okay.
