Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Why won't my Kenmore dishwasher display work properly?

I have a Kenmore dishwasher, model number 665 16884000, serial number FL0701229. It has been acting up since we had an extended power outage. The dishwasher was NOT running at the time. The display keeps flashing either air dry, or quick rinse and air dry, or the lock button is stuck. I had originally been able to reset it by pushing 'anti-bacterial' then ''sani-rinse' 5 times with the door open, closing the door, and letting it drain for 2 minutes. It ran smoothly for about 1 week after the first incident. Then it needed to be reset again. It again ran well for about a week. It is now acting up again and, even if I can get it all the way to the 2 minute drain, as soon as any button is pushed, either the lock comes on and won't turn off or the air dry button flashes, or the air dry and quick rinse buttons both flash. I am sure something was damaged by the power outage and would like to know what part is most likely to need to be replaced. I own a multi-tester. Thanks

Heating Element

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the heating element might have burned out. The heating element heats the water up to operating temperature. After a set amount of time if the temperature isn't reached a light on the control panel might start flashing. The heating element can be checked for continuity with an Ohm meter.

Check Fault Codes

If the display lights are flashing and there is an error code in the display window, check the wiring diagram and tech sheet in the dishwasher that will provide information on the fault.

Drain Pump

If lights are flashing on the control panel, the drain pump might not be working properly. For two-wire drain pump motors check them for continuity using an Ohm meter. If it's defective You'll need to replace it. Drain pumps are not repairable.

Touchpad and Control Panel

If the lights are flashing on the display the entire touchpad and control panel assembly might be defective. If the display works but the dishwasher functions are all out of synch, or some of the buttons don't respond properly the entire touchpad and control panel might need to be replaced.

Touchpad

If the display lights are flickering for no reason, the touchpad might need to be replaced. Sometimes when the touchpad is defective the display lights are flashing randomly.

SOURCE: I have a Kenmore Ultra

Hi
This may be an issue with heater circuit, door switch or wash pump. Press and hold the heated dry/air dry button for 15 seconds....After, 5 minutes check if you are still getting the same error. If yes, then it is a water heating fault. To resolve this error try pressing this reset sequence-- Heat Dry - Normal - Heat Dry - Normal or High Temp - Air Dry - High Temp - Air Dry or Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry, Hi Temp Scrub, energy saver dry. Now let the unit run for 2-3 minutes and then you press the Cancel/Drain button and allow it to completely drain and reset. If this doesn't work then it's an issue with the wash pump not pumping the water past the heater efficiently or due to lack of water to heat. Please make sure that heater is not open circuited and is heating the water efficiently. You'll have to check the heater using a multimeter; the meter should read between 3000 to 3300 ohms (Use multimeter on Rx1 ohm setting). If heater is fine then make sure water pressure is optimum and fill valve is working fine. Hope this helps... Please post back for further assistance.

SOURCE: Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher - Blinking Quick Rinse Light

I had the same flashing light problem first the normal wash flashing light then the others. I tried shuting of the breakers but nothing. I tried resetting the panel by pushing normal wash and heated dry simultaneously and nothing. So I took the six screws holding the front panel out and unplugged the ribbon type wires and plug and unplugged it several times to help make a better contact and I was able to get it to work right away. This may not work for all but I worked for me. It is very easy to do and it's worth a try if you're having the same problem. It took me less then 10 minutes.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite 665.15929001 Dishwasher, flashing Sani-Rinse light, won't start

Kenmore is **** with a double PP go buy a Maytag or GE and throw it threw the appliance dept like the Discount tire guy did on TV. I have asked the same question on 4 different blog's and no answer. The question to where they were actually built is unavailable. They only warranty products for 1 year and their disclaimer's add up to when you walk out the door. They are just JUNK! sorry I do not know the answer, first you will pay the repair man then end up buying a new one anyway. Same as me..Peace!

You will need both the model number plus the serial number in order to try to date it. Once you get that information use the following link to date it as best as is possible:

What year is this Kenmore dishwasher Model # 665.15831791 made?

The date of manufacture is determined by the SERIAL NUMBER on the appliance. This dishwasher was manufactured by Whirlpool. The following link explains how to determine when it was manufactured:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3576437-determining_the_age_of_your_whirlpool_ap

The serial number is usually located somewhere around the door opening. The first two numbers in the serial number identify the WEEK it was manufactured (52 weeks in a year). The second DIGIT in the serial represents the YEAR it was manufactured.

If you have difficulty determining the manufacture date, please post back with your serial number and I will assist you. I hope you find this information helpful.

You would be surprised that if you look around your house / garage you may actually find a cap that works. Otherwise sears is an authorized Kenmore dealer. So you could always purchase from them, have model number and serial number handy.

Where can I find the model number of my kenmore dishwasher

There should be a label located on the inner lip of the dishwasher where the door makes contact when closed. The label should have the model and serial number. If the label is missing you might find one on the unit if you pull it from the cabinet.

Dishwasher Non functioning

Disconnect power immediately! Several brands of dishwashers have had safety recalls over the past few years with bad switches or the rinse aid liquid leaking inside doors or inner insulation reacting with the wirering's insulation, in some cases causing fires. If you google dishwasher recall you will see GE, Maytag, Whirlpool/ Kenmore...... When you search or enter model numbers make sure you use complete model and serial numbers. If you leave off a letter or get one wrong the sites might tell you your model is not involved in the recall. I wish I was on my work computer now,... I'd include some photos of dishwashers which I serviced which did burn. Please leave a comment with your model and serial number.
