Dell keyboard not working

Is the whole keyboard not working or is it just a few keys?

If the whole keyboard is not working, try removing it and replacing it. If just a few keys are not working, the keyboard is likely in need of replacement.

To find the replacement part number, look under the keyboard and read off the sequence of characters following DPN (Dell Part Number). You should find a replacement quite readily from your local computer shop or on the Internet.

Need to replace the keyboard of your DELL laptop? It is not as difficult as it...

Need to replace the keyboard of your DELL laptop? It is not as difficult as it sounds; it should take no more than 20 minutes. Also, a DELL laptop OEM keyboard replacement is usually around $20-$40, which is much less than what a computer repair shop would charge you for the repair. Here is what you need to do:

1) KEYBOARD PART NUMBER: Be sure you have the right keyboard for your laptop. The easiest way to do this is to look up in your user's manual for the PART NUMBER for your laptop's keyboard. If this is not an option, there are other ways to get the right part. The most direct one is to just remove the keyboard and look up the part on the keyboard itself (since you'll need to remove it anyways to replace it).
2) REMOVE THE KEYBOARD: Removing the keyboard depends on the specific model you have, but in general in involves the following steps:
a) Unplug the AC charger
b) Remove the battery from the laptop
c) There should be a small WHITE button located on the top right of the keyboard, right on the edge of the keyboard. Using a screwdriver, press it in and lift the flat piece of plastic that goes from the right to the left, just on top of the keyboard. BE CAREFUL NOT TO BREAK IT.
d) Now you should see 2 or more screws (usually Phillips screws) holding the keyboard down. Remove them.
e) Carefully lift the keyboard FROM THE TOP SIDE and SLIDE IT OUT about 2 inches (5 cm). The keyboard is attached to the laptop with a flat cable, so be careful.
f) Unplug the flat cable from the keyboard and remove the old keyboard
g) Get the new keyboard and plug in the flat cable to the laptop
h) Slide the keyboard in, bottom part first (the bottom part of the keyboard is the one FURTHEST from the screen). Press the keyboard down in its place.
i) Re-attach the 2 screws you removed in step (d). Be careful NOT to over-tighten the screws or you may damage the new keyboard.
j) Re-attach the flat plastic part on top of the keyboard, starting from the LEFT and making your way to the RIGHT, carefully pressing it down in place.
k) Re-install the battery and the AC charger. Turn on the laptop.

You can find a video of the whole installation process here:

You can find laptop replacement parts (including keyboards, screens and rechargeable batteries) on Ebay or on (the latter also has a nice search feature, to locate the right replacement part)

Replace keyboard on vaio vgn-ns215

there are specific vaio notebook models where the keyboards cannot be easily replaced. that is the reason why their parts department do not sell keyboard parts. if that is the case, what you can do is to call sony to set up a repair for keyboard replacement or go to if you want to process the repair online

Replace IBM T60 keyboard

Hi, To replace the keyboard on the T60, turn it upside down, Check out the screw, there is few pictures, there is 5 screws holes where you can see a little Keyboard picture. Take them off, Open the T60, remove the touchpad by taking up the top part, disconnect the little cable. Now take off the keyboard, still be carefull with the little connection. Make sure you replace the new keyboard in the same way you unbuild it, you might re-connect the keyboard and touchpad in the wrong way, make sure you put them back as they were. Re-screw, You re done ! If it does not work, means you re-connect the part in the wrong way ! thanks and have a nice day J -

I need a replacement keyboard for Medion laptop model no: MAM2100. OR MD 96327.I spilled water on the keyboard, some keys work, some don't. Want to replace the keyboard but cant find one to match. I HAD TO...

Check first for a spare on Ebay, that will be cheaper than buying a new spare, but parts for this model are difficult to find.

For example here is a RAM2000 keyboard, contact Medion to find out if it is compatible:Cybercom MD42792 Medion Ram2000 Replacement Keyboard

If you do not find a compatible part, call medion, they can supply parts and tell you what parts are

Try also Computer parts for MEDION

In US you can also contact Quanta that distributes medion parts internationally, they are locaed in US and ask part price and availability: Contact Us

Replace single key (alt gr)

for laptop keyboard, you'll need to replace the whole thing, the main reason behind it is if a customer needs to replace a single key then the company would just ship a practically weightless peice of plastic were shipping would cost more than the actual part. Also in company invetory of parts there are no part numbers for every key on the keyboard, it needs to be a kit. So that's why they would replace the keyboard for you.
