Cloudy water that stinks

1st priory is to save the fish !! move them to a new container consisting of half old water and half new water (declorinated) along with a small air bubbler !! this should help your fish to recover (don't use soap to clean out container it is toxic to fish) moist table salt is best to use for a cleaning agent and rinse well b4 putting fish inside

then ck to see if your aquarium is pumping water thru the filter and falling back into tank ( replace all the water in the tank 1st with two rinses ) make needed repairs to pump and or filter assembly (New filter cartridge) new pump impellers and cartridges are available for purchase for your aquarium from vendors that sell aquariums and allways ck the outlet the pump is plugging in b4 blaming a pump fail with a known good table light set to "On" they do go off once and an a while
verify that water chemistry is ok b4 retuning fish to tank and observe fish for strange behavior for next several hours ( upside down swimming, laying sideways )

Do aquarium air pumps use batteries?

Aquarium air pumps use either a power outlet or batteries. Battery operated air pumps are used when transferring fish. Also, in case of power outage, these pumps continue to work, which essentially save the life of fish.

How come there is no air going into my fish tank via the pump?

You're pump is probably blocked. First, you should move your fish to somefreshly oxygenated water if it has been more than 24 hours since the pumpstopped working. Here are some other steps to take to determine if you canfix your pump, or if you have to buy a new one:1. Check the air tube connections to the air pump.2. If they are all connected, check that the motor isworking. You can do this by taking the air pipe off the pump, and putting theair outlet on the pump to your face. If the pump is working, you should be able to feel a rush ofair against your face. If you cannot - this means the air pump is not working.3. If there is no aircoming through, remove the tube and pour warm water through it. Remember, your fish should never be in a tank for more than24 hours without a pump or filter to circulate the air!

I just noticed that my fish tank air pump broke. How long can the fish survive with a broken pump?

As long as you have an air filter, your fish will befine. Just like pumps, the air filtersmove air around and oxygenate the water. The air pump is superfluous. If you do decide to purchase another pump, please see thisvideo on how to install it properly:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gTnfXgmMTxY

My fish tank air pump broke and I think my fish aren't getting enought oxygen because of it. Should I buy a new one or can it be fixed?

Technically, it can befixed but if it happens once, it will likely happen again. You should buy a new one as they aregenerally pretty cheap. In the meantime, fill a large bowl with water and place the fish there. This will allow them to get some fresh oxygen. While the fish are in the temporary container, get rid of all of the water in the tank. Then, refill again with new, oxygenated water. I wouldn't leave them in this environment formore than a day before you purchase a new air pump.

The jacuzzi magnum force pump can it be used for a fish pond

This is a lot of pump for a fish pond. You should use the safe-guards as you would find in a pool, two drain's separated by 3 or so feet and/or a couple skimmers. You dont want the fish getting pulled into the drains/skimmers. It will also be a lot of $ to run the pump compared to a smaller 'fish pond' pump ... of course your pond may be much larger than the average garden variety.

Personally, I dont think this is a good idea for a small pond. Tell me more about your pond.

Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com

NEC 892 blocked pump

For most blocked-pump issues, the true problem is something like a sock in the outer tub, over the tub outlet.

If the cloth has slipped into the pump hose completely, or into the pump body, you will have to remove the pump hose from the bottom of the outer tub and try to fish the material out of either the tub, the hose or the pump body. Complete removal of the pump may be necessary to accomplish this task.

For top-loaders, wherein you can't fish the clothing through the tub outlet, one can open up the unit, and remove the outer tub cover, and fish the offending bit of clothing out with a creatively-shaped length of coat hangar.
