Why does trouble light keeps coming on.

go back to the dealer and demand that he use the fault codes to diagnose the problem or get your money back. Either that or go to an auto spares shop that runs fault codes for free
Point-- vehicles have fault codes recorded and are readable with a scanner . Any mechanic that doesn't use a scanner but guesses should be avoided at all costs.

DTC'S KEEP COMING BACK!!WHY?

Your friend is on a fishing trip

If you have no factory diagnostic manuals &
trouble charts to follow you don't know the system
you trying to fix

If you have a smoke machine it would be good to get some
practice with it for an Evap issue & codes

What is happening is that person does not know that codes
do not tell you what is wrong or what to replace, you have to
component test for that

A code is just a sensor reporting a fault,not always a failed
sensor

You have to find out why the fault occurred & do not always
need a part replaced

Flashing check engine light on 1997 Monte Carlo

If the CHECK ENGINE light come on, the PCM (computer car) have stored a fault code there; I suggest scanned this and note what fault code is there. Sometimes Autozone or AutoShop make this reader with OBD tools for free.

Keep in touch.

98 f150engine light keeps coming on for egr valve have replaced but light still comes on with same code

The light and the code it represents mean a problem in the EGR control or flow, it doesn't indicate a certain part is defective, this is a commonly misunderstood meaning of modern fault codes. That is why we techs go through years of training on diagnosing the fault codes. I will need the fault code to provide any more help, but that will just be a guess based on my 25 years as a Ford dealer service technician.

I have 2008 Malibu 4 cylinder and my engine light comes on, my temperature gage at times doesn't work and when it isn't working the fan keeps running and the engine light goes off at times, th

You need to find out the fault code that is stored that is causing the check engine light, the whole thing may be related to one failed part like the temperature sensor or the wiring to it.

Car won't keepidel1989 300e Car won't keep idel, starts up runs for a while but cutsoff

first ensure your spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor/coil packs are in good shape. once thats done check for a check engine light, sometimes they come on then go off but a code will be stored regardless. once you have made sure your getting good spark and there are no trouble codes the issue is most likely a dirty throttle body or fault IAC (idle air control) valve or throttle positioning sensor. hope this helps, good luck

My Audi q7 keeps struggling to pick up power

When a problem like this arises the very 1st thing that must be done is to have the electronics scanned for fault codes, this is the how the diagnosis of the problem is started, otherwise you are just guessing.

Check engine light is on and car "jerks" after

First scanned the PCM (computer) to know exactly what fault code is stored there; when check engine light come on, some fault code is there.

With this code number could send additional details to diagnostic and fixed. Keep in touch.

WHY DOES THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF STAY ON OFF IN A CHRYSLER TOURING 2007

Hi there,

Your vehicle's OBD computer monitors all your vehicle's electrical emission circuits.

Each time you turn your key, the computer considers this 1 x drive cycle.

When a fault (or out of spec) condition occurs, this will register a fault code in the computer's memory. Some circuits will only trigger the Check Engine Light (CEL) after the same fault occurs a few times. Other circuits will trigger the CEL with just one fault detection.

In the same manner, if the fault condition is only intermittent, the computer may consider the condition recitified, if that fault does not occur after several drive cycles (i.e. the CEL will no longer light up).

The only way to have this resolved is to arrange for your local Mercedes dealership (or authorised service agent) to connect their factory SCAN TOOL.....and read your computer's stored fault codes.

These fault codes will quickly identify the suspected circuits (eliminating unnecessary garage labor costs), allowing quick diagnosis & repair.

Note: Mercedes Scan Tools operate on a different communication protocol. Typical scan tools designed for American & Japanese vehicles use a different protocol, therefore, I recommend this be done only by a Mercedes agent (or European service specialist).

The process of scanning for fault codes only takes 15-25mins (depending on the technician's experience), hence should not cost you much to have this procedure performed.
