How do I clean the door light sensors. Where are they? My door lights won't go off.

  • Anonymous Jul 07, 2013

Thank you> I will check the switch, and I have looked at the door jam. The manual says there is an eye in the doors and it also works with the keyless entry, to look and see if they were dirty. But of course it doesn't tell you where any of those things are located. Thank you for helping.

If they don't have the standard switches, the sensors would be inside the door latches.

I'm showing standard door jamb switches on each door, so there should be one on each door post or where the hinges are.
Keep in mind the dimmer switch for the dash lights could be turned on.

Thank you for getting back to me. I have looked at the door jams and they don't have the usual buttons that move in and out when you open and shut the doors. The manual says it has eys that may nneed cleaned and the keyless entry eyemay need cleaned too. Of course it doesn't tell you where the eyes are located. And I will check the dimmere switch too. Thank you again.

If the passkey is messed up, there will be a light on the dash that says security, or have a picture of a car with a lock thru it. If there is no light when the key is turned forward, then its NOT a passkey problem.

2003 Ford Explorer.....door adjar light won't go off, dome lights stays on unless manually turned off, key in ignation creates a dinging noise.

try spraying the latch mechanism with a spray lubricant and open/close the door many times-the sensor is on the door latch (not the 'button") and it is a common problem on fords as the get older. do both doors, spray heavily, and open/close at least a dozen times or more.

The computer keeps telling us the lift gate is open, when it's not. It also has an abs light that comes on all the time. It tells me the air sensor needs to be replaced...even after it's been...

The lift gate has a door open senser ( switch) in both latches that hold it shut. You may have to remove the door panel and manually remove and replace the faultty switch but you might get lucky by spraying bothe the latches with Blaster or other pentrating oil and repeatly closing tand opening the door what'ing the door open indicator on the dash till the switch finally opens as it's cleaned otherwise you'llneed to manually clean the switch or replace it with a new one. They have one wire and 1.4 turn into the side of the door latch. Just unplugginthem does'ntr work either as the security system won't reset if the switch is disconnected.

Door adjar warning light stays on. Dome and cargo light stays on.

You need to remove the door ajar sensors from the doors and clean and lube them. You must remove the interior door panel then remove the door latch. Then twist the switch out of the latch to work on it.

Drivers door sensor not working. Electric fuel pump is not activated when drivers door is opened. Warning for lights left on when exiting car not operational

It's the switch on the door frame that detects when your door is open. VW's are notorious for this problem. It either needs to be cleaned or replaced. Definitely try cleaning it first. It might be stuck in the "door closed" position.

1995 taurus dome light and door lights won.t go

One of the door switches is bad. Try spraying wd4o into all the latches, sometimes this will free up the switches. It might take a couple of days. If it doesn't work you'll have to unhook one at a time to find out which one is bad.

Ford 1998 Taurus - interior light stays on

first lets understand that every door has a sensor . and that sensor is in the door latch assembly . and over time this latch gets sticky and needs cleaned.
what i have found is WD40 worked very good for me.
make sure you spray a large amount into each door latch trying to wash out the dirt and dust .
the go around to each door and open and shut them to work in the WD40. and then go around one more time and spray again. this will help remove any thing that has been knocked loose.
then just wipe down your doors . and if the sensor isnt broken your light will work like they should.
good luck
