Question about Gateway GT5228 (7156) PC Desktop

Gateway GT5228 not loading Video

My Gateway GT5228 powers on but does do anything else. At times it acts as if it will begin to load but sits at a standstill. Sometimes the Gateway logo comes on but not that often. Inserted video card from the intergrated video, changed power supply, installed harddrive into different machine (loads with no problem), recently changed motherboard. I'm stuck what else can I do!!???!!!

    I had changed everything else except the MB so tried that, ordered it online. Unable to get into BIOS, when the Gateway start does display ( which is not often maybe 4 times since dealing with issue ) the system does not move, neither F2 or F12 responds. Thought maybe the board went bad.

    Without the hard drive in the machine can you go into BIOS? F2 at Gateway start? Remove all the other cards from the unit and try again. I have to assume you tested the memory by replacing it with known good sticks? Why did you originally replace the mother board and where did you get the new one?

When i turn my computer on my momitor wont come on without my help i have to push the button on side of monitor6 time then it comes on

Are you giving the computer time to begin sending a signal to the monitor. Some computers send a brief low resolution signal during BIOS load, then put the video back into sleep mode while loading the operating system. The video drivers are usually loaded fairly late in the boot/OS load cycle. You may just not be waiting long enough.

I have a gateway GT5228, with no ram in it will the gateway run on one stick of ram? 1 gig or no matter what I have to put 2 sticks in???

Depends on the type of RAM it is. If it's "dual-RAM" then you need both sticks. If not then 1 stick will work fine.

Pci e video card not recognized by windows 7 32 or the bios

You must connect a monitor to it otherwise it will not be recognized (disconnect the monitor from the onboard connector before that). If you can't see anything - even the BIOS - this way eiter:
1 - the card was installed incorrectly;
2 - the card needs extra power - connect that;
3 - the card is dead.

Gateway 5228 wont boot no lights on keyboard

does it load the bios screen? Does it get to the windows load screens if it does go to the bios screen? Does the computer power on at all?

Sometimes what happens is the bios chip can be faulty or die and this will have to be replaced to fix the issue. If the computer is not powering on then it is more than likely a power supply issue.

(just in case, you might want to make sure that all of the adapters that come from the power supply are connected to the motherboard as well)

Gateway gt5228- progressively worsening boot problem

I went back last night and tried the holding power button in with no plug in and it did not work. I even tried the trick of freezing the computer. It would not perform the same way more than twice. Once I got beeps and start up but no video. Another time it started up and gave me video. Ran great when it did decide to start (twice in 4 hours). I got the customers data off, took about 30 minutes. However on trying to restart it through windows it would not do it. I am giving it the diagnosis of failing motherboard as the symptoms are random and with varying problems each boot. No rhyme or reason to when it would start. I could leave it sit for an hour or I could keep trying to turn it off and then on again. I have eliminated the power supply as I installed another (larger) PSU in and it worked the first time, but with limited success after that. I eliminated the memory as I removed it and it made no difference, the PC didn't even tell me (through beeps) that it had no memory. I eliminated the processor as it does not behave like an overheating or bad processor as when it did start it ran flawlessly. I eliminated the BIOS as I cleared the CMOS through jumpers and BIOS did not indicate problems- like I said when it booted it ran great - as if there were no problems. I elimnated the hard drive as I was able to get the data off no prob. So this all points in the direction of motherboard. I think we are both in the same boat.

It appears that you overheated your video card quite a few times. This can be caused by poor ventilation, a bad heatsink or just a bad video card. In any case, your solution is to replace the video card with a new unit.
