Push the power switch, the green LED comes on steady for about a second, the lower screen flashes white, and the whole thing shuts down again. There's no activity at all on the upper screen. Happens the same way regardless of whether the system is on battery or has the charger plugged in, and with our without a game cartridge. It is a new console bought in December.
Sounds like a fuse has blown. Get it replaced under warranty. even if you have lost reciept its still registed automatically under warrant by its serial number. it can be fixed but no need if you only bought it in december as covered by waranty.

Do either of the screens flash just before the green led goes of?
If it does then the screen that doesn't flash is faulty... If you have a warranty then i'd suggest sending it in for repair if not and you fancy a go at a bit of DIY let me know and I will take you through the process of dismantling the DS lite, reconnecting the screen to see if its just come loose and if you need to I can tell you how to go about fitting a new screen.
Try removing the motherboard from the screens and attach the battery the green light should turn on and stay on.
Now attach the lower screen and turn on. If the screen is ok the screen and green light will flash and then turn off. (if the screen doesn't flash the bottom screen is you're problem and will have to be replaced)
If this happens the problem is then you're top screen which you will have to replace.
Check L2 near the power switch on your DS mobo. That part usually get loosen or taken out when you drop your DS. And usually you can recover it when dismantling your DS.
symptom: the ds lite powers up for a brief instant, but then shuts off potential solution: disassemble the lower shell and check the connections of upper and lower displays (all three flexible cable connections).
My kids did the same thing. What I did to get it to work was to push back on the top and hold it turn it on. If it comes on then turns off after you let it go get 2 rubber bands and put the 1st. one on the top left down to the bottom right. The 2nd. one goes from the top right right to the bottom left. Then keep turning it on while moving the top to find the sweet spot.
ve you dropped it a few times or spilled water on it, if you have then thats the problem i sugeest that you try and get it fixed or if a friend whos an expert on this stuff
Hope this helps!!
p.s shake it if you hear a rattling noise then thats causing the problem
