Re: My USB wireless device is no longer recognized

Hi, I have seen this type of thing B4, & it sounds to me as if your USB WiFi has gone faulty? Really the ONLY way to check is to try another USB WiFi unit.

Xbox wirless adapter

I had the same problem last week. Xbox Support says I need a new adapter, so I figured I would tinker around with the broken one. On the USB connector itself, there is a outer stainless shroud, and the inner black piece with the gold contacts on it. What happens is the wifi adapter contacts no longer touch the console contacts, hence the light never comes on and the console doesn't recognize it. I stuck a screwdriver between the stainless shroud and the black connector plate, and made the gap a little bigger, now the adapter works perfectly. I think this is a design flaw, as I never move the console or adapter, but over time, the pressure from the USB cable makes the contacts loose and it eventually no longer touches. Saved me $100 bucks.

Wireless card suddenly cannot detect any signals

I would suspect ya adapter.. the ONLY way to sort it is to try it in another PC see if it works.. USB devices seem to be very flimsy and we get heaps of 'em in the shop.. 9 times outa 10 it's the USB device gone weird.. substitution is the only way to isolate the problem.

Keep getting the error "USB device not recognised."

This means that your license has run out. The internet talking kit was not free it had a temporary license and it expired, when you try to reload it, it does not work because a file has been added to your computer that prevents it from working without a vaild license. Now you have some options, use VMware create a virtual machine that shares this hardware without loading the program, ghost the VMware machine and then save this image. Load the USB drivers and the program, use for 3-4 months until the license runs out. when the license runs out use reimage the VMware machine with the ghost image and reload the usb driver and the talking kit program. Yes its a lot of work, or you can just buy the license load it and as they say keep on getting up.

My USB device is no longer recognized

Seen this happen many stems from a corruption of the plug and play drivers enumeration key in the registry...the fix is quite elusive...the key is cheap...pick a different brand to replace it with save yourself the grief of fighting this battle. Hope that helps.

My device is no loner recognized

Go into the device manager, click on View > Show hidden devices. Look under unknown devices or under USB for unknown devices. Also check under the section relating to the type of usb device. If you find an Unknown Device, or a device with an exclamation point, right click on it and uninstall. Disconnect the device, reboot and install the drivers/software for it if any. If it's still not working check it in another computer. If you cannot get it to work in either machine, the usb plug of the device is probably damaged. Possibly a loose solder joint. Have the manufacturer send you a new one if its still under warranty.

This is one of those Cuckoo! problems. Assuming you have enabled your wireless connections again, have you tried a system restore to a few days before you dissabled the connection to see if the settings as they should; revert back to before the problem. If all other devices work in usb ports can't be that, if the device works in another pc, can't be that, so it's back to the software driver or a usb controller problem, on your pc that cannot start the device.
