Sonny tv-kds-50a2020 power sw. turned on green lite comes on ,tv does not come on,red lamp lite comes on and flashes steady all the time.

Hello, those sets were bad about the lamp, yes the lamp failing and they didn't break the part number on the lamp is a XL-5200. When I would have calls with this issue, I would say about 75% of the time the lamp fixed it....tks

Is is standby light blinking red or any other light? Let me know how many times red standby light blinking after three seconds long pause to provide you helpful info.
It seems pop sound was due to broken lamp, please check lamp inside tv and if it is broken, replace it to solve tv problem.

If you cannot fix this using the on-screen menu system (to adjust hue, etc), then this is a more serious problem.

It could either be that the lens has become distorted or in some other way altered.
Or it's time to replace the lamp.

I suggest speaking with the manufacturer or to someone where you purchased the tv, or to someone from a tv repair shop.

Ballast in Sony is one of the most reliable parts, almost never goes bad.
I assume you have TV unplugged from the wall outlet to reset error memory (not to mention that you have to do it anyway during ballast replacement).
I hope you are using good quality lamp, because cheap substitute from E-Bay can cause same problem. Lamp and ballast works as duo and on-board diagnostic system is unable to separate them unless lamp is completely blown (in that case you will have steady "Lamp" LED blinking).
You need to set TV up with back cover removed but lamp door attached (there is switch that prevent TV from working if lamp door is removed). You need to locate large 2-wire connector on ballast and make sure that it's getting about 330V DC from power supply board when you turning your TV on. If it's not there - you have power supply board problem. There should be fuse on it (not on the ballast board but power supply board - just trace those two thick wires where they coming from). That fuse could be blown by previous bad ballast shortage.
Small connector on ballast have 5 pins. Some of them ground, one of them steady 5V and another trigger (turn on signal) 5V. Make sure all voltages are there. If there is no trigger 5V - you have problem with main board.
In my experience 90% cases - it is very bad quality new lamp or something is just not connected (forgot to put plug all the way or something).

Try connecting the TV directly to a different wall outlet and check. If the issue persists, try power resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue persists, then the TV requires service.

it's the fan's they either need cleaning or to be replaced.

Lamp replacement is easy in KDS-50A2020 and written in user manual, check page-52 for details.
Open lamp cover on lower right side of TV, pull out old lamp and slide new lamp, put lamp cover back and turn on TV.
