Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!

Power button goes on and off, and no response

Power drain the computer by removing the battery and power adapter and press the power button for 1 minute. then insert back in the battery also the adapter to your computer and start the computer.

If the solution won't work
, try using flash light on the monitor,if you can see anything on your screen, possible backlight is the problem, however to isolate also the issue you may use an external monitor to check if you can have a video using other monitor and if not? you may contact the tech support of your system for possible mechanical failure.

hope it helps.

Monitor problem

The power light is flashing green can indicate start/restart of the power supply due to shorts circuits or failing power supply due to bad caps, look for bad caps with bulging top first, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps:

Monitor displays for less than second, then goes black.

If that model has no external power supply then the supply is internal and some capacitors have failed. It's a fairly common problem with that type of monitor. The capacitors are cheap, and not too difficult to desolder and replace. The hardest part sometimes is getting the darned thing open.
Hope this helps.

This is also a test, I have been having issues getting notices of replies through e-mail. Your input therefore is desirable.

Thank you.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 - flashing green light.

First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:
  1. Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).

  2. If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.

  3. If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.

Monitor L17AMTN flashes WinXP desktop, then blanks.

dmellman, Before you open it up, try this! With fully booted pc and WIN DESKTOP screen up, reconnect the L17AMTN . Have a bright flashlight handy so that when the lcd screen flashes on for 1 second and then goes dark, you will want to check to see if the desktop remains on the screen even though you think it went away. Shine the light 1-2 inches from screen at different angles. Has the desk top completely disappeared or is it still being displayed? Do you know about Cold-Cathode-Fluorescent tubes and their Inverter type power supply? I assume that this unit also has a "lay on floor black box switch-mode-power-supply" that is supposed to supply raw 12v-14v dc to the monitor? This symptom is typical of lcd monitor power supply failure, and or inverter board failure. Not to mention the fact that the CCFT's could be a bit tired from use. YOUTUBE has some videos on taking apart lcd monitors. also do search on web for "bad caps on lcd boards" or "bad caps in lcd monitors". I should think that this Tatung might suffer from swollen cap-itis. get back to me with results of your investigation. Im louie12fix on fixya or just nrth of Windy City

My computer does not boot

No bios no post and no power lights on disk drives means hardware problem.

Either call a technician or try the following if you feel you can do it yourself, beware , there is always risk of damaging your PC on DIY.

unplug the computer, open PC and remove all plugs and internal and external devices, leaving only a minimal set of devices.

Start the motherboard with only Power adapter , one RAM module, and video card and screen connected. Unplug all disks and external devices, remove all pci cards.

If it still does not start take it to a repair shop, you may need to replace power supply, motherboard or ram.
