123Scan2 is an easy-to-use, PC-based software tool that enables the quick and easy set up of Motorola scanners.

The Symbol LS3578-ER has a "single flow" frimware system. Meaning you can inly upgrade.
You may be able to contact symbol and they will create a special file for you.

This 4 beeps also stays for communication error. Please check the connection to the cradle and also the connection between the cradle and PC.
You can start by pairing the scanner with cradle with the Pairing barcode, then defaulting the scanner to the standard settings - use the barcode "Set All Defaults" from the manual. Then select the right host type USB, RS232 or another.
After this procedure should the scanner work.

That is correct this LASER scanner does not read 2D barcodes. It contains a long range 1D laser engine.

If you want to read 2D barcodes you would require an imager. For long range try the Intermec SR61 it contains an EX25 imager.

This is the LS400xi Product Reference Guide. This contains all of the standard programming barcodes.

The Advanced Programmer's Guide contains barcodes for modifying the way the scanned data is sent.

Is the cradle connected to the pc via either usb, serial or keyboard wedge?

If so you will need to first, pair the scanner with the cradle by scanning the barcode on the cradle and second, configure the cradle properly so it transmits the data to the host.

Download the product reference guide from motorola website. You will get all the configuration information you need in there.
