Not printing from mac computer

I have moved to a school district that has MAC computers and I brought my printer from home to be in my classroom. I connected the printer with a special cord to the printer. When I tried to print from Word to the printer ...the printer started but then blank paper was just sprewing out....and/or some computer language/digits printed on the paper. what do i do to have my printer print correctly?

Re: not printing from mac computer

Usually trash on the page (hearts and shapes) indicates an incompatible driver. Verify you have the correct driver installed.

I've been scanning to my computer w/ my cannon mp240 and suddenly cannot. It still scans and prints and prints from my computer, but the scanning to computer has stopped. I have a MAC and it's worked...

The printer drivers for the MP240 are intergrated in the Mac OS X.
If software for your printer was included with the Mac OS X installation, check the printer manufacturer's website for updated versions. Install a printer driver available from the manufacturer's website only if it is a newer version than the one included with Mac OS X.

Repair disk permissions

: For more information about Repair Disk Permissions and Mac OS X v10.2, v10.3 or later, see "About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature".
  • Mac OS X v10.3 or later: Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/). Select your Mac OS X startup volume in the column to the left of the Disk Utility window, then click the Repair Disk Permissions button.
  • Mac OS X v10.2 through 10.2.8: Open Disk Utility (/Applications/Utilities/). Select your Mac OS X startup volume in the column to the left of the Disk Utility window, then click the First Aid tab. Click the Repair Disk Permissions button.
  • Mac OS X v10.1.5: Update to Mac OS X 10.1.5 if you have not already, then use the Repair Privileges Utility. See "Mac OS X: About the Repair Privileges Utility 1.1".

Reset printing system (Mac OS X v10.4 and later)
If other steps haven't helped, you can reset the printing system. Important: This should only be used as a "last resort" when troubleshooting a printing issue.

I am trying to add my shared printer on my home wireless network to my Mac Book ? How do I do this ?

First you would make sure the printer is connected to the network and working. Leaving the printer & any other computer using the network on start your Mac Book. It should be automatically recognized on the network. You will then need to use the add printer wizard and find your shared printer info. Once it recognizes the printer it will install the driver so that you will be able to print from the Mac as well as any other computer on the network. Hope this helps.

Is it Mac compatible?

It is Mac Compatible.
Question: Did you install the correct driver for the correct OS? Sounds like you may have a compatibility issue in that respect. Remove it and try again is my best guess.
The link to the Mac driver page is here:

Hope this helps :)

HP Photosmart Printer, Mac won't recognize with USB

Sounds like their is not communications between your printer and computer. Could be a bad USB cable - swap out and see if that fixes it. If not it could be a faulty USB port on the computer or printer. You can check the computer USB port by connecting another device, but there is no way to check the HP's USB port. I would also check printer USB port for dust bunnies! If you're not able to resolve, I think it is time for another printer.
