The switch appear to be stuck and I am unable to locate the shutoff for it.
It runs for several minutes, then shuts off and then resumes (I assume a thermal shutoff is trying to save the motor).
Can you confirm please does it dispense water by itself if you select water? have you tried lifting the ice maker stop lever by hand? At a guess from your fault description I'd say you need a new dispenser micro switch. at worst a new Ice maker unit inside freezer. cheers
OK simple way to stop it tell your wife to turn the freezer off to be safe. Inside the freezer just behind the icemaker she can unplug the Icemaker unit only, the rest of the freezer wil run fine when she turns it back on. You should be able to get universal Micro switch to fit, this is a common fault normally water has gotten into the switch. tell me how you get on mate. cheers

Good Afternoon Sean, thanks for your inquiry!
I understand that your icemaker is not dispensing ice and it gets stuck rotating. You have provided me with a model number of M1 and I was unable to locate any information on that icemaker. May I have the model number of your refrigerator? You can locate the serial tag (which lists your model number) on the inside wall of your refrigerator. With that information I can further assist you. -Matt

This icemaker does not have water dispense.
Lifting the stop lever does not impact the dispense, so that has no impact.
I believe you are right on the micro-switch, what I really need right now is a switch for the whole unit to prevent the motor from burning out till I can replace the micro-switch. Right now the only way I have to stop it running is to unplug the whole refridgerator, not a good option.
Replacing teh whole unit is an option if the microswitch is not the cause, but my immediate concern is getting it stopped in the short term (actaully getting information so my wife can stop it until I get home to work on it this evening).
