I just put new ink in this printer (dell a920) and i bought it used, when i press print it will start printing but makes alot of noise then it stops and a window pops up and says that their is something blocking the path of the cartriges.
Usual thing is the carriage bar is dirty or dry. Open up the to lid so you can see the ink cartridges and as much of the silver bar they run across. Give the bar a wipe with a cloth and then oil it with some light oil eg WD40 squirted on that cloth. PLEASE MAKE SURE IT'S SWITCHED OFF B4 DOING THIS

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles. If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive. It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.
2 Open the Dell Printer Solution Center on the computer. Click "Start," located in the bottom left corner of your computer. Select "Programs" from the menu displayed. Click "Dell printers." Click "Dell AIO Printer A920" and then click "Dell Printer Solution Center" to open the Dell Printer Solution Center.
3 Click on the "Maintenance" tab and select the option that says, "Clean to fix horizontal streaks."
4 Click "Print." This will print a nozzle print page, which forces ink through all of the nozzles to clean and unclog them.
5 Print a regular document again to see if the print quality has improved. Repeat the cycle up to two more times to improve printing quality.
Hi! Your problem is your printers INK CARTRIDGE alignment, make sure that your printer ink cartridge is properly aligned. Or try to clean your ink catridge. GOOD LUCK. THANKS
is there any more colour ink inside?
if there is ink inside you just have to open your printers properties dialog and look for a color option that uses black only. 2. see if the colors are blocked
1. Did you insert correct the cartridge in the holder?
2. Check if the contacts are clean in the cartridge holder, maybe something is ther and the needle-type contacts from the printer does not push right on the cartridge contacts.
Hi. The flashing code signifies that there is a fault with the connection between the ink cartridge and the printer - usually because either the tape is still on the cartridge or maybe some glue from the tape still on the contacts. In my case, I think the cartridge was simply knackered, so I threw it away and opened yet another ink cartridge. It now works fine.
If you want to test yours, simply take out both ink cartridges, and re-insert them one at a time. If you've put a working cartridge in the flashing will stop; if you've put the dodgy one in it'll still flash. Just replace the dodgy one.
I have(had) the same problem using the Dell A920 printer on a Dell compunter running XP. After spending a hour trying to find a solution on the internet, I finally found a solution on my own.
When ready to print a envelope.
Go to File/Print
Click Properties button
In lower right hand corner, check "Print Color Image in Black and White" box
Click OK button
Click OK in print pop up
When finished, repeat to uncheck "Print Color Image in Black and White" box to allow for color printing.
