Question about Braun 360° Complete 8985 Electric Shaver

1 Answer

Wont turn on

The blue light turns on on the bottom of the shaver when I plug it in. It also lights up when I try to charge it using the cleaner. It doens't turn on though. Not even when I try to turn it on when it's plugged in. What's wrong? Is it the charger or the battery? Help!!!

Why have I got a red light on the bottom of my shaver when I am using it

It is common for many Braun shavers, that if the indicator light flashes red while the shaver is being used (switched on and running), it means the battery is low and needs to be charged soon.

Below is an example from a manual for a Braun model 7526 shaver. You can search that site for other manuals if this is not the correct one.

This model shaver has 3 indicator lights:
1) Green (Charging)
2) Red (Low battery)
3) Blue (Power cord attached and plugged into the wall)

Download the manual for the model 7526 here:

"The green charging light shows that the
shaver is being charged. When the rechargeable
battery is fully charged, the charging light
flashes or goes off.

If later on, the charging light comes on
again, this indicates that the shaver is
being recharged to maintain its full

The red low-charge light flashes when the
battery capacity has dropped below 20%,
provided the shaver is switched on. The
remaining capacity will then be sufficient
for 2 to 3 shaves."

When plug in the light does not come on to charge it. What is wrong with it ?

Most shavers will have little metal conductors on the bottom back that when placed into the charger device must line up with the base charger. Try re-adjusting your shaver in the base.
If your shaver does not use a base-charger, and simply plugs into the wall to charge, a lot of cheaper models have low quality cords etc that can be easily damaged. Sometimes people like to rip of the charge-cord out of the shaver socket without realizing theres a mechanism to properly disengage it and thus cause damage to it.

Hope this helps

I have a Braun razor, 8585. When I connect the stand to the power, the light indicating the level of fluid come one and is accurate. When I put the razor in the stand, the charge light flickers but no...

Try removing the cord from the clean/charge base and plug the cord directly into the bottom of the shaver. If it charges directly from the cord, it is a safe assumption that the clean/charge base is not working correctly.
This unit is not repairable as the problem is, almost certainly, a faulty circuit board. You will need to purchase a replacement.
You will find a replacement clean/charge base for model 8585 at See link below

Red light at bottom flashes even when razor ids fully charged. What can causrethis?

When the battery is almost empty (when there are only 5 or fewer shaving minutes left), the battery symbol lights up red.

Make sure that the battery does not have a memory effect. What I suggest is taking the shaving head unit off and running the shaver till empty, then recharging. Check if the red light is still flashing.

There's also a head indicator at the bottom of some shavers.

To remind you to replace the shaving unit, the shaving unit symbol flashes (all types) and you hear a beep when you switch off the shaver (RQ1090 only). This happens at the end of 7 successive shaves to remind you to replace the shaving unit.

Without knowing what model you have it's difficult to diagnose further.

Braun 7526 not charging the + light wont turn on? how can i fix this?

In your case, it's hard to know exactly what might be wrong without more information. Was the shaver perfectly fine and then all of the sudden won't turn on? Or was the shaver working for shorter and shorter periods over time and then just quit? Was it exposed to undue heat, such as left in a car or in a place that wasn't air conditioned in the hot summer?

Although the batteries in these shavers are fairly robust, if fully discharged and not used for a long while, it might be that they've got a "low level memory" and will need replacing. If you are handy, you could disassemble the shaver and replace the batteries. They are NiMh AA flat top batteries that you can buy on websites like If you're handing with soldering, you can replace them yourself. If you're unsure about that, you can buy the batteries along with the circuit board as a complete unit that drops right into place. sells these.

Another thing is that if the shaver was dropped, there's a chance that a metal connector part has come loose and so the shaver won't function. Taking it apart, you can see if this is the case.

The Braun 7000 series are rather old at this point, so sending it off for repair is kind of out of the question, as the costs involved would be more than if you bought another shaver. If you're not wanting to spend the big $$ on the new 9000 series shavers, find a new old stock 8000 series shaver (they are better made than the 7000 series). You can search on "that auction site" and you'll find quite a few Braun 8000 (or 360) series shavers available for sale.

Problem: Model ES7037
CMB - Over the past month the Panasonic shaver would turn on with 3-4 tries, but now will not turn on at all – the on-off switch must be bad after only 7 months of wet use. Before sending in I found this diagram:

Disassembly: Remove bottom Phillips screw & end cap, pop off each plastic side with fingernails (reinstall them from top 1st), remove 4 screws, remove 2 clips, take top off. Remove battery case and the on-off little, white plastic lever fell out. Slide off the white plastic/metal on-off slider & clean contacts with knife … my bottom contact was black & top was clean.

Assembly: Reinstall on-off slider (white plastic with metal contacts) by sliding back in grooves -- hardest part - place the on-off plastic lever on the battery back unit – I tried to put it on the case and could not get it to stay on. Slide the battery pack back in with the plug prongs in the holes in the end being careful not to drop the on-off lever. Test shaver. Stuff battery wires inside case – screw 4 screws and add 2 clips on, then final screw in the end after cap placed on. Easy once I knew how to put the on-off lever on the battery side – that was tricky. Total time was about 1 hour – next time it will be about 15 minutes. Works great! jgg
12-27-08. Think I will use it dry from now own since it had a lot of whiskers inside of it and maybe wash only the head as needed with baby shampoo.

YouTube pasted below:

Use that link to disassemble and clean the switch then put it back together.

All newer Panasonic Wet/Dry Shavers are probably the same.

Good Luck!

Braun won't charge.

I took the base apart and pressed the contacts out so that they can contact the shaver points easier, now it works like new. Turn the base upside down, press in the two clips and pull the inner portion out of the shell. You can now access the two charging contacts and press them or bend them so that they protrude out further. Make sure you unplug the unit and take out the cleaner cartridge before you flip it upside down too.

Braun Shaver 360 Complete #8985

the 110 plugin goes into a circuit which changes AC to DC for charging the internal NiCad batteries. If there is NO charge whatsoever in the batteries, the shaver will not work. If you have any electronics background a simple test with a VOM will determine if the bridge rectifier is putting out any DC.[you must disassemble the shaver] If you have no experience on circuits take it to a repair location.
