Re: Stripes on Display, is there a way to repair?

Hi, Yes it is possible. On some Fujitsu/Siemens units that I've worked on display problems could be caused by: 1. the backlight or its inverter; 2. the video card; and/or 3. the LCD display panel itself. Based on your post/description (stripes), I will rule out the backlight. The next bet (though unlike but a possibility) would be the video card which is underneath a covering/lid on the leftmost near the top on an inverted unit (bottom side up). It is normally plugged into a mini PCI slot with 2 clips/lock at both sides. You can try removing, clean the little gold terminals at the bottom and reinsert. If this does not solve the problem, the most likely will be the panel display itself. Original manufacturer's part - guesstimate about 500Euros. Some firms offer swap for less than 100 Euro, still others offer better glossy replacement for under 400 Euro. One such firm is They also have a step by step guide on do-it-yourself repair at Hope this be of some help/idea to you. Post back should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

Your cable connected to your motherboard on your laptop is loose. This will void your warranty, unscrew the screws around the LCD Monitor, stickers may be covering them, Remove Monitor, then, remove and attach the cable connecting to the lower part of your laptop.

Try starting the computer in safe mode, usually this can be done by pressing F8 during start up. If safemode starts, you should open event viewer and check errors under system.

While it is possible that the cable that connects your display to the video adapter is bad, I believe your issue is that the chipset for the display adapter has overheated andbecome damaged. You can try the following:

1. Start the system in 'safe' mode by tapping the 'F8' key when starting up. This will bring up a menu. Select 'Safe'mode' to see if you still get the same issues. If so then you probably will need to sent it out for repair.

2. If possible try connecting an external monitor to the system to see if it generates the same problem. If not then the cable ( normally located under the keyboard) is either loose or damaged.

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

I have a 2 1/2'' black blob on the lower right corner of my ibm R51 monitor, with pixel stripes going up the length of that corner. Do I need a new monitor?

It sounds as though the display may need replacing.
Try calling your local computer repair place for replacement of the display or Lenevol if your laptop is still in warranty.
I hope this healps.
Have a good day and good luck.

Vertical stripes on screen

Plug the PC into an external monitor.  If it works, you have a bad display in the laptop.  If it doesn't, the problem is likely your video card.

Those are dead pixels if you want to get rid of them you will probably need to replace the monitor. They will probably charge you an arm and a leg to replace it so you might get a second quote from Computer repair shop.
