The dial FEELS as though it is engaging the mechanism (it doesn't move freely, it clicks into place). Should I still disassemble?

when i adjust my shutter speed dial, the shutter speed is not changing. It seems to be firing at 1/1000 sec or maybe 1/500 of a sec, i can't really tell but the dial is not slowing the shutter from this. Even when set to bulb setting i'm getting the fast shutter

Remove transport/winding lever and loosen the retaining ring underneeth. Gently lift shutter speed dial and reseat it. Tighten the retaining ring and reattach winding lever. ( the shutter speed dial is not engaging the mechanism inside the camera and you need to establish proper connection ).

Ok if it feels like it is engaging then do not lift shutter speed dial ( ASA connection will disengage and you will have a hard time connecting ).
Set to B and make sure the shutter is not opening at this setting ( open back door and look -- shutter curtains should open fully and shutter stay open as long as you are pressing the S. release down ).
If you are not getting B working then the top cover will have to come off but this should be done by someone trained because of the ASA connection I mentioned ( connection involves a very thin wire that may jump off the rollers and you will battle to get this sorted out ).

Canon AE-1 program shutter fires when cocked

Unless you are a camera technician, this is a problem that has to go in for repair. The mechanical hold is defective or broken. Please weigh the cost of repair vs buying a used camera
You can buy a used/refurbished AE-1 Program in the $80-$140 range. Call several repair places by looking on the internet, some will give a free repair estimate.

Nikon FG. Replaced 3V battery. On the M90 setting the film advances OK. On 'program' or other settings it will only advance once and after shutter fires it will not advance until put on...

M90 is a battery independent setting - it requires no battery power to function. If it won't advance until put on M90 from other settings, then either you're not allowing for proper exposure, have the settings incorrectly set (film speed, etc), or you have shutter issues. The shutter is electronically controlled on all settings except M90. In the auto setting, your lense MUST be set to the smallest aperture (biggest number). On any other setting, you can use it however you'd like. I'd suggest unloading any film, setting the shutter speed dial to 1/125 or so, opening the back and looking thru and firing the shutter. If it's not snapping open and immediately closed, theres an issue and you need to consult a repair technician either locally, through Nikon, or through KEH Camera online.

I just purchased a SystemPro Wireless Remote Shutter release for my Nikon D200 camera. How do I set the menu program so the camera and the remote "talk" to one another? Thanks for your help

You need to set the camera's shooting mode to one of the remote modes. Quick-response remote mode fires the shutter when you press the button on the remote. Delayed remote mode gives you two seconds to hide the remote behind your back before firing the shutter.

To choose a shooting mode, press the mode dial lock release and turn the mode dial to the desired setting.

How do I change the shutter speed on the Fuji S8000fd

Set the camera to Shutter Priority AE by turning the mode dial to S. Press the +/- button to open the setting screen, then press up/down to select the shutter speed.

You control the shutter speed the same way in Manual mode. You also select different shutter speed/aperture combinations the same way in Program mode.

You can indirectly control the shutter speed in Aperture Priority AE by changing the aperture and letting the camera set the appropriate shutter speed.

Takes a picture when film advance lever is moved

The magnets that control the shutter are the likely suspect. Dirt and debris can cause them not to hold properly. Hence, it fires the shutter when you advance the film. It is something you can repair yourself. I can describe the procedure if you are interested.

Shutter Speed

If your shutter speeds are off you can compensate by changing the film speed setting,
quicker ( than should be ) shutter speeds require you to set the film speed to slower ASA .. KC

Canon ae-1

To open the back pull on the rewind knob ( pulling up ) until back opens. Check that your 6 volt battery is ok ( ae -1 has an electronic shutter so will not work without a battery ): battery situated on the left hand side of the camera ( if it is facing you ) underneath small flip up door ( lock is at the bottom on the left of the small door ) . Check the battery by pressing the shutter release gently and seeing if your light meter needle moves. No movement ? replace battery. You have two modes for taking pictures : auto which is actually AV ( aperture priority) or full manual : both are set by moving the shutter speed dial on the top right hand side ( underneath film winding lever ).
