Disconnect the battery then remove the wire off the starter , remove the bolts that hold the starter to the engine !
Bolts might be across ways or come upwards ! Pending what modle /make of engine you have !

You have the ignition switch wired incorrectly or it's defective.

Starter Solenoid Needs Replacing Sounds Like It Has Jammed In Start Position Disconnect Small Color Wire From Starter Solenoid Not Black And Try Again

Find the starter relay in the fuse box under the hood and swap it with another relay of the same type. If the starter works then the relay is no good. Also check any fuse that is labeled Ign. or Bat.

Check the leads to the starter motor again. There should be the negative battery lead, and two more wires. One has to be faulty. The battery is obviously OK.

If the wires are correct, undo the starter and slide it out, rock the car forward when it is in gear. This will move the flywheel. The flywheel might not be engaging with the starter teeth, hence nothing.

If you remove the starter and clamp it down in a vice and put 12 volt ground to the starters bare metal and pos straight to the big positive post and the bendix does not shoot out and spin then you need a new starter.

did you check for ignition signal at the starter? if not you should do this with a test light., also check the ground battery cable from battery to the engine block, be sure there is not corrosion on both battery cables and terminal...now if every thing looks normal take a hammer and bump the starter a couple of times if it cranks , then you need a new starter..hope this help

does this van have one of those starter keys below the steering wheel under the dash?
if so the plug is out or not all the way in.

other wise you will need to jump start test the starter manualy down on the starter itself.

there is one small gauge wire going to the starter and and large gauge wire coming from the battery .unplug the small one and put a test light on the wire and turn the key to test for power.then test at the starter turn key off .

now cross the little side to the big side on the starter .there will be a spark but this should cause the starter to engage if its working ok.


using a few of these tests should fix this one ok.
if you dont turn the key off when testing the starter the only thing that will happen is the engine may start running on you.
make sure the brake is on and in park.
