My ice maker will work 1 cycle and then it wont work again for a few days. I can here the compressor start up and it hums for 10 seconds then a click happens and its over. No more humming.

Its issue with compressor or the problem with defrost timer.It clicking to set the defrost cycle,but not actually working.

The compressor gets power from compressor capacitor or compressor relay.On some models there is capacitor and on some there is relay.May be that relay or capacitor got shorted causing the problem.

But if that checks out ok,then its faulty compressor causing these.

The defrost cycle is not taking place.The cooling cycle runs and then defrost cycle starts.But its not working in your case.
Try reset:--
Unplug unit from power outlet for 12 hours,then reconnect and see it helps or not.

It does sound as if you may need a new ice maker. Other than that does the compressor come on to keep the ice cold? If so is it making any type of noises beyond the typical hum?

check to make sure that the fill tube has not become blocked with frozen water.

There is a relay overload on the compressor that makes a noise similar to what you are describing when the compressor does not start. Sometimes the electrical parts can be replaced, the rest the compressor is bad and needs replacement.

The other less likely possibility is that the ice maker is not hooked up, the arm got put down and the ice maker is cycling causing its heating element to run and the noise from the water valve.

If you pull off the back panel behind unit you should get some idea where noise is coming from

It sounds like the ice maker. If you don't have the water hooked up, and the ice sensor bar is in the down position, the ice maker assembly will attempt to make ice continuously.
Solution is easy: raise the ice sensor bar until it clicks in the up position. It will lock in this position, and the ice maker will not cycle anymore.

Buzzing is usually a fan, like one in the freezer, or back bottom - for cooling the freon. The compressor over-heat usually will make a single click (off) and a few minutes later a click (on). If the fan in the freezer stops working well, the freezer will frost up and the fridge section will not be cold enough.
