Question about Mitsubishi WD-52725 52". Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

TV shuts off automatically

The image on the TV screen freezes, or the screen turns solid blue, or dispays distorted images for approximately 30 seconds then shuts down. The timer light blinks until the reset button is pressed. Sometimes the reset button needs to be pressed several times to clear. The timer light starts to blink automatically even when the TV is turned off. Sometimes the TV will work for several hours. Other times it will shut down automatically after only a few minutes. An authorized service center has replaced the signal board, three differenct DM boards, and just recently the formating board. Is this TV irreparable and unsatisfactory?

We're having the exact same problem. TV could stay on for weeks then the screen turns blue, then it eventaully turns off. Sometimes the green light will flash and go off after 30 seconds or so or it could remain flashing for minutes. The first time this happened tonight, the TV stayed on for 2 hours the next 3 times it happend, the TV only stayed on for a couple of minutes.

The screen goes blue, then they TV turns off. Once off, the green light flashes for about a minute then stops. I can then turn the TV on and it is back to normal. It does this at irregular intervals. I have a power conditionner/surge protector on it.

Tv out of foucs

These procedures are from the owners manual, go into menu and then picture quality and then: Convergence The Convergence feature lets you adjust the TV’s three tubes. When the TV tubes’ images are precisely aligned, they create the color images you see on the screen. Over time, the picture can drift out of alignment (this is normal). If your picture seems fuzzy or has a yellow tint, using Convergence could correct this misalignment. Only one convergence is needed for all inputs, regardless of the signal format. Note: Make sure the TV has been on for at least 30 minutes (TV needs to warm up for best results) before starting Auto Converge or Red/Blue Centering. When you select the Convergence feature, a submenu appears with three options: Auto Converge Automatically aligns the projection lenses to self-correct color images. You’ll see flashing squares of color dance across the screen (this is normal). Note: After performing auto convergence, use the Blue Centering and Red Centering menus to fine tune convergence in the center of the screen, if necessary. Blue Centering Aligns the blue and green images to fine-tune the picture. Red Centering Aligns the red and green images to fine-tune the picture. Note: The ability to change channels is disabled when adjusting the convergence options. The TV must be tuned to a usable signal to converge the picture.

Samsung HCN4727W Rear Projection TV, green screen, audio works

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai2_bing.gif,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

You need to take your tv in and have the picture deflector re-aligned.  This doesn't cost much, My dad had to do that to his a few months ago and it cost 30 bucks.

I could not see the image you say you included in your description. If the rectangle is black (and not just an outline) it may be the box associated with captioning or text descriptions. Use your setup menu or remote control to turn captioning/text off.
