Did you transport it STANDING or LYING down?
If Standing 4 possibilities:
1. The thermostat is hosed (replace)I had one like this and just put it on a $6.00 24hr time to turn on for 1hr every 5 hrs. (New Thermostat was $40.00)

2. The heat exchange fins on the back are dirty(clean with broom and air/vacuum cleaner)

3. The Door seals arent sealing and cold air is falling out the bottom, pulling hot air in the top (rehang door or replace seal) Note: a piece of paper 2" by 8" should be hard to pull out all the way around when closed. Like a cash register reciept. Cleaning with armor-All and then thinly coating with Vaseline may help
4. The Freon is shot and needs a recharge. (Costs $40-100.00)

If transported Lying down, there is now air in the lines and it needs to stand OFF for 24hrs. You may have hosed the pump with the air/freon mix, but let it stand so the air can surface and retry

When i moved my kic chest freezer model kc0021-Aa, I heard an light explosive sound and now the freezer does not go on.

The following is the GE moving instructions. If you have started before the 24 hour rest period and the unit had been rotated from vertical have the compressor inspected.

FREEZER MOVING INSTRUCTIONS Please use the following steps when relocating an upright or chest freezer:
  1. Disconnect the power cord from the wall receptacle.
  2. Remove the food, defrost, and clean the freezer.
  3. Use blankets to protect the freezer finish from scratches.
  4. Place the freezer on its side for moving only if you have no other choice.
  5. When transporting a freezer, keep it in an upright position. If transporting it in an upright position is not possible, lay it down on the compressor side of the unit. Be careful to secure the door to prevent it from opening.
  6. If it has been transported on its side, set it right side up in its final location and allow the freezer to sit for the same amount of time that it was on its side (24 hrs max.). Do not plug the unit into the electrical receptacle without allowing this settling time. The unit can be damaged if it is plugged in prematurely.

If the unit was transported in an upright position there is no waiting time required.

Hope this helps?

My upright freezer runs more than it is off

general design requires compressor on off ratio to be total run time to be 18 hrs on per 24 hr day off time allows compressor to cool down averaged over the day cool air is required around the outer walls of the fridge to cool the condenser coil at the rear also

Can I transport a woods upright freezer in a horizontal or close to horizontal position?

not the best way to do it, but if you must, just when oyou getit to its final destination leave standing up for at least 24 hrs before restoring power... you dont want oils from compresoor circulating through unit.. give it the full 24 hrs

What is a reasonable temp setting for this freezer? Bought it without the manual. A quick version on how to set that temp would be helpful. Thx, m..

freezers should be -18/20C to keep beef for 12 months, use a freezer guage in centre of freezer, that way you wont get ice bricks instead of ice cream.....test after 24 hours of setting....

I bought a used Kenmore upright freezer, it's been running all the time.

The thermostat cycles the refrigerator on and off. The refrigerator normally runs as long as the temperature inside the refrigerator is higher than the set temperature. If the temperature inside the refrigerator is cold enough and the thermostat still does not cycle off, the thermostat may be defective. If so, you need to replace it, because it cannot be repaired. If the thermostat is not defective, you may have a problem with the sealed (refrigerant) system, in which case you should contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

HI I HAVE AN OLD 13 CU. FT KENMORE UPRIGHT FREEZER. AFTER I DEFROSTED IT YESTERDAY AND AFTER IT HAD BEEN PLUGGED IN FOR ABOUT 6 HRS I NOTICED THAT THE SIDES OF THE FREEZER FELT VERY HOT . IS THIS NORMAL ?...

It had to run longer than normal to cool down the freezer again. The heat from the compressor running is what you feel.

I would not worry about it unless it is still hot after 24 hours. Then there is another problem.

Kenmore upright freezer

It is best to unplug the unit, open the door fully and let stand 24 hrs. to thoroughly defrost. Empty the drain pan if so equipped.
Wipe out interior with a dry cloth, then locccck or otherwise secure the door so that it cannot open. Place a moving cart on the non-hinge side to transport it, and never lay it on its back.
