Water is leaking out of detergent dispenser- big time

I just got this washer/dryer combo. First run went fine, went to do a second load and now water keeps pouring out of the detergent dispenser every time I turn it on. Yes, I have checked and the door is as closed as I can get it to close. I've tried and retried. Help!

Re: water is leaking out of detergent dispenser- big time

Water pressure may be too high, try turning the cold water feed pipe (usually the blue one)down a little, not too much though. If this does not solve it,is the machine lying level front to back? If not pack up the front of washer until level. If still no good take out dispenser drawer completely check for obstruction inside housing of machine. Also while drawer is out clean the underside or top of dispenser housing with an old toothbrush or similar tool,(you will see several pin holes where the water comes out when filling). To take out dispenser open drawer fully and there should be a clip at top back of drawer that you push while pulling drawer at the same time.Hope this is useful to you.

Run the washer without any clothes with a cup of chlorine bleach or washing machine cleaner and hot water every month to maintain this issue. Also, check out your manual for specific tips they suggest. Mold usually occurs in the HE's because of issues with airflow, how long wet clothes are left in washer and too much detergent. Hope that helps you.

Leaking soap dispenser

There should not be suds up that high in the washer. You are experiencing a over sudsing condition and spin is throwing up throw the fill line in the dispenser. Run some fabric softener in a load with no clothes to clean out any hidden suds. Then use only HE (High efficiency) detergent and half of what they recommend! The softer the water the less the soap you use. Sounds like you may be using non HE detergent. My guess if the machine is fine.

Dispenser problems

Open dispenser drawer and push down on center plastic tab at back of dispenser to allow you to take dispenser out of machine. Take the plastic pieces off and clean them. (they need to be clean in order to siphon the bleach, softener, etc out. If there is water left in them, the water fill valve is OK. Cleaning should fix your problem. If you are using concentrated additives, try diluting them a bit with warm water when you add them to the dispenser. Remember, only one tablespoon (max) detergent, one teaspoon (max) fabric softener per load.

Detergent in clothes

How much detergent are you using? I'm wondering if there is a residual amount of detergent left in the washer. Does it have a dispenser? If your washer has a dispenser for liquid detergent you could try pouring a small amount of really hot water into the dispenser to ty to clear it. Then try running a small empty cycle or two with plain cold water. Remember not to ever use more detergent than is recommended for your washer.

Thank you for using Fixya.

I had the same problem. I went to and asked the same question as you. I have copied my questions and answers into this reply. My Bosch Nexxt 500 Series washer has stopped dispensing fabric Sent to Appliance Experts 10/25/2009 at 3:24 PM My Bosch Nexxt 500 Series washer has stopped dispensing fabric softener; I also find water in the softener dispenser cup (little cup that pops out for washing - has two sides, one for softener and the other for bleach) after every load. I have tried soaking and cleaning the cup with a brush as the manual indicates with no changes; water still standing. I removed the dispenser and filled it with water. The water didn't run out until I angled the end with the drain hole slightly down. Then the water came out through the drain hole fine. I thought maybe I hadn't cleaned it properly and bought a new dispenser assembly; this is a big part with the dispensers for detergent, softener, and bleach. I replaced my softener dispenser cup with the new one. Same problem. Help.

Optional Information:
Make: Bosch Nexxt 500 Series
Model: WFMC3301UC

Already Tried:
I stated my case in my question, but I did disassemble the dispenser cup. There is no blockage. It looks just like the new dispenser cup in the new assembly I bought. I also have only ran bleach through the detergent dispenser 2 times in 3 years.
Status: Awaiting Expert Reply Value: $28 Answer 10/25/2009 at 3:26 PM (2 minutes and 40 seconds later) if the dispenser is clean, then you need to replace your cold water electronic water valve. This water valve has 2 solenoids. Once for the softner and one to fill the tub. The solenoid that fills the tub can be working normally while the softner solenoid will fail to open as far as it needs and will either not send water into the softner compartment at all, or will only fill very slowly leaving diluted softner in the compartment at the end of the cycle. Here is a link to the part you need to replace. This is the part that the cold water fill hose connects to on the back of the washer.
Here is the link to the part with its description. Good luck!

He4t - monthly bleach cleaning cycle

Washer Monthly Maintenance Procedure:
This cycle uses higher water volumes in combination with liquid chlorine bleach to thoroughly clean the inside of your washing machine.
  1. remove any clothing or items from washer
  2. CLOSE door (duh)
  3. open dispenser drawer and remove the detergent compartment and set aside. No laundry products will be added at this time. You will be required to add only liquid chlorine bleach at a later step.
  4. For Kenmore Elite HE products press a specific combo of buttons.
  • Select Rinse/Spin program
  • select low spin speed
  • select warm/cold water temp.
  • select 2nd rinse option
  • push the "end of cycle" signal button 4 times within 5 seconds to start the cycle
The machine will fill and run a short sensing cycle. This will take about 3 minutes.

Step 5
  1. The washer will provide 4 short tones. Check the: ESTIMATED TIME REMAINING display for the codes indicated below:
  • if "Ab" (add bleach) displayed in the estimated time remaining window (you'll hear 4 short tones) proceed to Step 6.
  • if "rL" (remove load) displayed in the Estimated Time Remaining window an error tone will sound. The door will unlock.
-open the door and remove the items from the washer.
-continue the cycle by pressing the START button.

NOTE: The water in the unit will dispense for a moment, then the door will unlock, lock again, and then the cycle will continue with another check for items in the washer.

The machine will fill and run a short cycle to determine whether any items have been left in the washer. This will take approx 3 minutes.

the washer will repeat Step 5 until it can determine that there are NO items n the washer and will display "Ab" (add bleach).
6. Add liquid chlorine bleach.
  • If using the maintenance procedure for the first time, open the dispenser drawer and immediately add 1 cup liquid chlorine bleach to the Main Wash detergent compartment. The liquid bleach should immediately flow out of the dispenser.
  • If doing a monthly maintenance procedure, open the dispenser drawer and immediately add 1/3 cup bleach to the Main Wash detergent compartment. The liquid chlorine bleach should immediately flow out of the dispenser.

  • Water will be flowing into the dispenser drawer when the bleach is added ... this is normal.
  • Do not add any detergent to this cleaning cycle. Use of more than 1 cup of bleachw ill cause product damage over time.
7. Once the cleaning cycle has begun, allow the cycle to complete. An est cycle time will appear on the display.

8. After the cleaning cycle is complete, leave the door open, clightly to allow for better ventilation and drying of washer interior.

9. Replace the detergent compartment divider.

Maytag front load washer leaking water from detergent dispenser

The other end of the dispenser to outer drum hose only connects to the outer drum and if you remove the top cover of the machine, you will see it clearly. You can unclamp the hose from the bottom of the dispenser and feel inside the hose for any obstruction. Do not remove the hose from the outer drum. Pour some hot water down the hose and squeeze the hose from top to bottom to remove build up of detergent and softener on the inside walls of the hose.
