"Not support" message when computer hooked up

Hi....TV and DVD work beautifully on this TV. I bought a Compaq SR2020NX and hooked it up by VGA. I initially saw some activity, even a flash of "Windows" loading but then I get a yellow "Not Support" on a blue/black background and that's all I see. I spent hours with Compaq, cursing them every which way. I brought the computer home from my office, plugged it into my Westinghouse TV in preparation for calling Compaq and cursing them again, and lo and behold, it functions perfectly. What do I need to do to be able to use my Compaq computer with this monitor? Of interest, I have a Dell notebook and it works perfectly with this monitor. Thanks, Terry

Thanks so much for your help. I was so convinced it was a problem with the computer that I hadn't even thought about adjusting the display settings.

I have a similar problem. The computer is hooked up to the TV via HDMI cables, so I would think that the screen resolution shouldn't be the problem. Also, it works fine most of the time, but if the computer is left by itself for a bit it seems trigger it. I thought maybe it was the sleep mode/screensaver, but I disabled that - or so I thought. I have Vista, so maybe I need to do something more to disable this. This same setup has the weird problem of randomly going black for a split second (with an audible pop) and then back on again - usually when surfing the web. Could this be related?

You may have to mess around with the screen resolutions on the compaq, as your notebook may have a lower screen resolution that your TV can handle, but your Compaq may be above the resolution support of your tv.

Rita...Unplug the computer, take your BIOS battery out (make a note of which side is facing up!), wait 15 minutes, replace the battery (make sure it goes in the same way it came out, do not reverse polarity by accident) and reboot. Does that help? If you had this work done on your computer by a service, contact them with this problem. They should have tested the unit before sending back to you.

Hi, Is Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 Silence 1GB DDR3 VGA/DVI/HDMI Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card capable for my Compaq HP Presario SR2020NX? -thanks a lot.

You mean will the Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 with 1GB of graphics memory, work in a Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC?

The Compaq Presario SR2020NX Desktop PC has a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

{Motherboard illustration and photo are towards the bottom of the page}

Look at the specifications.
Scroll down to the heading - Expansion slots.

Three PCI. (PCI expansion slots)

One PCI Express x16 graphics.

Looking at the motherboard illustration, it is Wrong.
Shows - PCIEX1 (PCI E X1)
According to the specifications it is a PCIEX16 expansion slot. (PCI-E x16)

A PCI-Express x1 slot has 36 contact pins. 18 on each side.

In comparison a PCI slot {White} has 124 contact pins. 62 on each side.

Looking at the photo of the supposed PCI-E x1 slot they show, the black PCI-Ex1 slot is longer than the white PCI slots.

It is a PCI-Express x16 slot with 164 pins. 82 on each side.

The Asus ATI Radeon HD6450 uses a PCI-Express x16 expansion slot.

So you know the graphics card will fit. Low-profile to boot.

Power requirement:
The Compaq Presario SR2020NX desktop computer comes with a 300 Watt power supply.
(Although in actuality it's more like 70 percent of the maximum rated wattage. 210 Watts)

Enough power for the computer, and the graphics card.
ATI graphics cards do not use as much power as a comparable Nvidia graphics card.

Concerned that the Asus graphics card uses DDR3 graphics ram memory, and the Presario SR2020NX uses DDR2 Sdram ram memory?

Don't be. The graphics cards graphics memory runs independent of the computer's ram memory.

Information on PCI-Express,

My neighbor bought a 32"

Unless the tv has a VGA input, or the laptop has a HDMI output, I am afraid you are going through too many conversions to make this work.

Can't connect my Compaq SR2020NX to the internet

Make sure the cat5 cable coming from the modem is going to the computer and bypass the router for now.

If the computer is able to connect to the internet then you know its a configuration issue with the router. If it still can't connect to the internet then you know its an issue with the computer, might be a driver issue with the computer at that point.

Call your Internet service provider and have them tell you the steps on how to configure your router to work with there internet service.

Compaq projector

Hi gambill32

If the VGA is a output you could get a converter that takes VGA to Component ( RGB ) and hook up the 3 x component RCA's to the TV 's component in.

This converter can be found at most good PC and AV shops.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

P.S. If you need any further guidance , just send me a request.

Pc connection doesnt work with computer

The TV you are hooking it to is not able to show the resolution you have the computer set to. Start by setting your computer resolution to 800 x 600. If that works than try 1024 x 768. If you go too high you will get that "out of range" message. The instruction book that came with your TV has a listing of the available resolutions the TV will show.
