Problem with booting-up on HP Pavilion dv9334us laptop

Problem description:
1. The HP logo not visible during start-up
2. Laptop display remains blank
3. No indication that the Vista is loading

Analysis:
1. On connecting a external monitor the display appeared and with two options. The first message implied Windows files may be corrupted and that I attempt to restore. I tried restoring and it failed. The second message implied that I could continue to load windows. This worked and Vista came up. At this point the laptop display also worked!! Why did restore fail?

2. I restarted the PC and entered BIOS. A comprehensive scan of hard disk drive test did not find any problems.

3. At this point I suspected the display driver. I went to safe mode and reverted to a earlier NVIDIA GeFore 7600 ver. 7.15.10.9815 - 2/27/2007

4. On re-start, HP logo appeared and Vista is working. I got the message ''Display driver has stopped responding and recovered: Display driver nvlddmkm has stopped responding and has successfully recovered.''

If you can help me resolve this problem it would be great help.

There have been many issues with HP laptops. Load Safe mode and go to Hp.com find your models updated bios. Load the updated bios as well as the updated video drivers. This will limit some of your problems but will not resolve any underlying GPU issues if your system has any. I suggest you check to see if your unit falls under the Limited Service Enhancement for certain HP models. They will replace your board for free. But the first thing they will ask is what version of bios you have. Good LUck! Ruben

Blank display

Could be hard drive crash , could be graphics chip failure , could be power supply failure............................

too vague description :

1. does screen show ANYTHING during boot attempt ?
2. can you hear hard drive or heatsink fan spin on boot ?
3. do you get keyboard LED's to light up on boot ?

If NO on 1,2,3, then power supply is toast . get new one........
If No , Yes , Yes , then graphics chip dead . Try external VGA->VGA output to other monitor , see if that works.
If Yes , Yes , Yes , but not booting then hard drive is toast , try replacing it and re-install windows .

I want to restore my laptop to factory settings its an hp pavilion dv4000

  • Using the recovery partition
    • 1 Turn on your computer and insert your recovery disc. Press F10 during start-up to open the console. This opens up the HP recovery console.
    • 2 Click "Next" on the screen that appears.
    • 3 Choose whether you want a nondestructive recovery (one that keeps your files in place) or a destructive one (one that erases your disk and rebuilds your system to factory defaults). If most of your files aren't corrupted or are still usable, go with a nondestructive recovery. Otherwise, perform the destructive recovery.
    • 4 Follow the instructions on the prompts that appear to restore your HP Pavillion.
  • Using recovery discs
    • 1 Turn on your computer. Press F1 at the first logo screen to enter the BIOS menu.
    • 2 Move to the Boot Options section of the BIOS menu. Look for the Boot Priority menu.
    • 3 Set the Boot Priority option to booting the CD-ROM first.
    • 4 Insert the first recovery disc into the HP laptop. Then press "Enter" on your keyboard to save your settings and exit. The computer will then reboot into the recovery console.
    • 5 Follow the instructions on the prompts that appear, to restore your laptop.

Hello i have an hp Pavilion dv9000 laptop. I use

yes, i would definately try removing the memory modules and blow some forced air into the connectors as well as using alcohol on a q-tip to clean the module contacts before inserting them back into the board. If it still does not properly boot, try removing one module making sure the remaining module is seated into the #1 slot, and reboot. If it does not boot, remove and replace with the other one, leaving that one out, reboot. If, at that time, it boots, you now know which module, if any, are bad.

Did it display any video at all with boot options or HP logo? Any POST test or beeps after you started the laptop?
Try removing the power ac adapter and battery. then only boot it up with just the AC adapter (no battery).
