Problem connecting to internet on Asus Linux

I am using ubuntu on my Eee PC and; though I've used wifi on it many times before, now I open my network connection and nothing shows up. The light that shows that the wifi card is active is not lit and when I hit alt-F2 to turn it on, it only displays LAN OFF. How do I fix this and is it a software or hardware problem? I bought this computer two weeks ago.

you may need to install a wireless card
usually on the bottom there are a few panels
one is for ram , one is for wireless card
if you see two wires not connected to anything
then you need the card , can get it on ebay
the wires have little metal round clips to push onto card
