When I select sleep or hibernate mode - the monitor stays black...

I'm running Windows XP on a Sony XP desktop 2006. Purchased the ViewSonic 19" from Fry's and looks great. One thing that bugs me is that when I select sleep or hibernate mode, the monitor does not come back on. It stays black. Please help. Pierre

Re: When I select sleep or hibernate mode - the monitor...

If the monitor says "no signal" then "going into sleep mode" and won't wake up - do the following: Set the Power Options to not enable hibernation on Hibernation Tab. Put the computer into sleep mode by briefly pushing the Computer's Power Button. Then bring it out of sleep by tapping "Space Bar" or "Escape" while moving the Mouse at the same time. The monitor should wake up. This method allows you to turn off the monitor power button and re-awake it without needing to restart the computer when the monitor won't wake up. Obviously be sure the monitor power button is on before you try to awake it.

Hit the keyboard keys. It is better to just turn sleep and hibernate off and just use a screen saver or tun it off.

My Dell Inspiron notebook keep turning display off and then go to sleep later.

Go into the Windows Control panel, then to power settings. There you can adjust the settings for the monitor sleep behavior, as well as computer sleep and hibernation.

There are seperate settings for while plugged into power and while on battery.

If you have trouble, just let me know which operating system (XP, Vista, Win7, etc) you are running and I will give you step by step instructions.

Hope this helps you,

Please can you help us. when we turn the computer on the monitor light stays blue with the screen remaining black, when we turn the tower off the light stays blue when it usually has the orange standby...

There is probably a conflicting setting in your power management options. My recommendation is that you check the monitor setting in Windows and see how you have it set up. In Windows it is under CONTROL PANEL>POWER OPTIONS. There are a few differences between WINDOWS 7 and XP from here on out, but in general, do not select a scheme and do not select any hibernate, standby, or sleep modes. If you stick with a simple power saving option, like "TURN OFF MONITOR: After 15 mins." you should not have any further problems.

Many of the Windows "green schemes" will not work right with different combinations of BIOS, Hard drive, motherboard, and monitor. It is best to avoid them, unless you are very patient and willing to go the trial and error route. Good Luck!

  • Hello chaleebradsh, the "Monitor" as well the Computer have "Power Saving Modes," [Sleep, ScreenSavers, and Hibernation]; so what you want to do is "Change the way the Computer / Monitor Sleeps!" From the Desktop Screen, click on the "Start Button," next in the [Start Search Window], type: power. In the next [window] that opens, you should see, from your point of view; a "list" in the (left column) "Change when the computer sleep, the wording may be different, but it will be clear enough. Now all you have to do is change the way the Computer and Monitor "Sleep, or Turn-off." If the Monitor have its own "settings;" just find them by the [button on the monitor], and do the same thing as above; but I'm sure the computer will take care of both. "I hope this information is of help; thanks for using FixYa, paul7of9"

Monitor sometimes blink

Unfortunately, the viewsonic monitors don't have the most durable electronics on the market, from what I have heard from some sales people at computer stores.

If you have a steady signal from the computer, and the computer isn't sleeping or hibernating, then there's something wrong with either the cable or the monitor.

Good luck on this one.

My viewsonic monitor goes black after booting up

Does it do the same with other PC?
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed VIEWSONIC monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Viewsonic monitor ,no video

Black borders on side of screen. Video driver issue or no video driver installed; Resolution was changed and monitor could not adjust. Monitor needs to be manually adjusted.
Getting into Windows Safe Mode For information on how to setup your video card resolution, see document CH000190 ... This is the most basic Safe Mode option and has no additional support.

Good Luck, Please dont for get to Vote/Thank you.

Viewsonic monitor seems to be stuck in sleep mode

Sound's to me more like a Video card issue, try the monitor in another computer if you are able 2 , otherwise please make sure video card is in tight and secure , not 2 sure what you mean by sleep mode, are you using windows vista? or xp? you may need to change some settings on your operating system , when you turn on computer do you see anything on screen at the start up? also when you click the menu button on the monitor does anything come on the screen then ? if so then its in your opertating sytem settings , disply settings e.c.t, i really need more info to help you solve this , the best thing i can suggest for now is to try the lcd on another computer a friends computer maybe , before considering the monitor is toast , hope this helps some way , good luck !
