What encryption is the router using? WEP, WPA, WPA2?
What version of Windows or MAC OS is the laptop?

For windows only WinXPsp3, Vista, 7 can connect using WPA/WPA2
Win95,98,ME, and XPsp1, sp2 are not able to use wpa wpa2

I believe you said that if you remove the security from your router that the laptop connects wirelessly, if this is the case you may need to update the wireless drivers to use it with encryption enabled.

It will allow some computers to connect but not others WHY?

Encryption is probably enabled in the router's wireless settings. The computersthat cannot connect to the router most like has not had their wireless cards configured with the router's encryption settings.

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

My ds lite wont connect to our internet i have a wireless router the ds says the security settings are not supported by the nintendo ds

WPA and WPA2 are not supported by the DS Lite, only WEP and unencrypted wifi connections are. There is no known way at the moment to make the DS Lite support WPA of any form so your only three options are to go to WEP encryption, use no encryption (not recommended), or set up an adhoc connection on a computer with that is connected to your router that has internet connection sharing enabled.

How can I block external users in the area useing my data allocation

You want to enable encryption settings. What this means is in order for you to connect to your wireless network you need to enter a password/encryption key to access your internet. Enable wpa encyrption adn then type in a enyrption key of your choice for example your phon number 2225551212.

Our router is visible for others and everyone has free access! how to block this router for others?(network is unprotected now without any password or whatever). Thanks in advance. E

  • Please follow the below instructions to protect your device:

  • Connect your computer to the router using a network cable, or you can connect to the router through a wireless connection. Note that your wireless card in your computer must be enabled.
  • Open your Web browser. Enter: http://192.168.1.1 in the address field. This is an internal IP address to access your router. Press the Enter Key.
  • When the password request appears leave the user name field blank. By default, the password is admin.
  • After logging in, you are not required to change the default administrative password. However, it's fully recommended that you change the default password by clicking on the Administration tab and Management. Enter a new password in the Password field and again in the Re-enter field to confirm.
  • I recommend setting the Remote Management item as Disable. It will be another layer of security for your router. With this configuration you can only access your router for programming using a standard Ethernet network cabling.
  • To save the new password, click Save Settings at the bottom of the page.
  • To avoid intruders accessing your wireless connection we'll start to work with the Wireless tab.
  • In the Basic Wireless Settings enter a name for your wireless network connection in the Wireless Network Name (SSID). Set the Wireless Broadcast to Disable.
  • When wireless clients survey the local area for wireless networks to associate with, they will detect the SSID broadcast by the Router if the Broadcast is enabled. Do not broadcast the Router SSID. It must be Disabled.

  • Note that your SSID should be set following similar rules for setting a password, e.g. at least 8 characters, a combination of letters, numbers and non consecutive characters.

  • Disabling the SSID broadcast is not a strong security setting, but it can help prevent intruders from sharing your WLAN. Remember to save your settings.

  • Enable network authentication and encryption. Listed in order strongest to weakest:

WPA2-PSK (data encryption TKIP or AES)

WPA-PSK (data encryption TKIP or AES)

WEP (256 Bit) - Weak, but better than no encryption

WEP (128 Bit) - Weaker, but better than no encryption

WEP (64 Bit) - Weakest, but better than no encryption

plz do rate the solution if got help

Laptop can't connect to DSL-G604T

You need to configure your router and use WPA encryption so that all accessing device can connect to it.

The obvious reason why the dell laptop can't connect is because of the WPA encryption set. It is different compared with what your router is actually broadcasting: WPA2.

So you can choose one of the 2 things to alter. Change your router's WPA2 encryption to WPA or change your Dell's setup to WPA2.

How do I put an encryption on my linksys router?

Securing your wireless network is a simple process, which generally does not require a lot of time. This can be done by:
  • Enabling WEP or WPA on the Router
  • Enabling Wireless MAC filter on the Router
  • Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
NOTE: The wireless security modes available may vary depending on the model of the router and wireless adapter you are using.
Enabling WEP on the Router
Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) is a type of wirelesssecurity which does not change. It provides comparable confidentialityto a traditional wired network. There are two types of WEP you canchoose from:
a. WEP 64-bit: This type of WEP consists of 10-hexadecimal codes. To enable WEP 64-bit, click here.
b. WEP 128-bit:This type of WEP consists of 26-hexadecimal codes hence it is moresecured compared to WEP 64-bit. To enable WEP 128-bit, click here.
Enabling WPA on the Router
Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is a type of wireless securitywhich is dynamic in nature. Meaning, it changes depending on the timerenewal you will specify. Hence, WPA is more secured compared to WEP.
  • Temporal Key Integrity Protocol (WPA-TKIP) – utilizes a stronger encryption method and incorporates Message Integrity Code (MIC) to provide protection against hackers.
  • Advanced Encryption System (WPA-AES) – utilizes a symmetric 128-bit block data encryption
To enable WPA, click here.
Enabling Wireless MAC Filter on the Router
Wireless access can be filtered using the MAC address of thewireless devices transmitting within your network’s radius. You caneither permit or prevent specific wireless computers access to yourwireless network.
To permit wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
To prevent wireless computers to connect to your wireless network, click here.
Disabling SSID Broadcast on the Router
Disabling the SSID broadcast is one way of securing your wirelessnetwork. This procedure will prevent other users from detecting yourSSID, or your wireless network name, when they attempt to viewavailable wireless networks in your area. For instructions, click here.

Wireless security via MAC address

I would enable WPA encryption and keep the MAC security on. Even though no other computers can connect due to the MAC security, without the encryption your network still looks wide open and it will tempt people to connect. At least if they see there is some sort of encryption on they will not even bother with trying to connect to it.

Need help dynex security sync wireless

according to the manual that i have, the model if the router that you have, DX-E401, is just a broadband router and doesn't have wireless capability. if that would be the correct model of your device, there's no way that you can enable the wireless encryption since it doesn't have wireless capability. but if you are really using a wireless dynex router, follow the steps below on how to access the router's page and enable the security.

access the router's setup page by typing http://192.168.0.1 on the address bar of your web browser (i.e. internet explorer, firefox etc). by default the username is admin, then leave the password blank.
you will be prompted with the router's page, now go to the wireless settings and look for the encryption field and enbale wpa from there.

if you are not sure whether your router has wireless capability or if you are using another wireless router just give me the exact model and brand then ask me

ciao!
