My V2000 won't boot. It starts to power up, beeps twice stops at the Compact sign in the middle and "press [esc] to change boot order, press [F10] to setup, press [F12] to boot from lan" at the bottom. Won't except any input. I tryed turning on with ESC pressed and it does the same thing as above, then goes to "Press to resume, to Setup" at the top then won't doo nothing.
My guess is a faulty processor. I had to replace my motherboard a while back. Yesterday I was really proud because I got the machine up and running, proving, I thought, that I had successfully took it apart and put it back together. It had been out of commission for a while, so when I shut it down, it asked if I wanted to do windows xp auto updates.
This morning I got the exact same issue you have, so I opened her back up and noticed that I forgot to plug the CPU fan back into it's socket. So much for feeling awesome.
My guess is that while doing updates it overheated and died, but I didn't notice because I stopped paying attn to it because it was turning itself off. I don't think it's a Windows thing because when I try to put a boot cd into the computer, it still won't read.
Dunno what to say... I'll definitely post back here after I replace the cpu to see if I find an answer.

Re: Another "Won't Boot"
First Press all the keys on the keyboard (computer on or off)a sweeping motion accross all keys will do, A stuck key can prevent windows from booting (seen as a keyboard error).
it is also possible that your keyboard connector has come loose, check the keyboard connector (you will need to remove the facia above the keyboard and may have to undo a couple of screws to do this).
could try to plug in an external keyboard, see if this allows you to bypass issue

At boot up, after the POST, each time the HDD led blinks, the laptop produces a loud "beep", and refuses to boot, as if this phenomenon prevented the HDD to be read.
If I press the power button, it stops beeping. When I release it, it starts beeping again.
If I press F8 at the beginning and then ask for a normal boot, It boots normally. Anyway, in windows, I have some strange activity, like I would continually pressing Alt+Tab. If I press Esc, it stops immediately and then all seems to work fine.
