Re: My vcr is blocked and don't know the password

Hi, A couple of things you can try: 1. Try a hard reset by unplugging the power cord for a couple of hours, then power it up again; 2. Call Sharp customer support or go to the Sharp web site: and explain your problem. Normally, they have a master password for clearing lockout issues; or 3. Inshop service - some models require an internal reset while others still have to be connected to a PC and and use a special software. Hope this give you and idea and be of help. Good luck and kind regards.

Have you tried cleaning the tape head? I recommend taking the top cover off to clean any video. Then I spray the heads with Servisol Video 40. You should clean all the surfaces that a tape touches.
You can get a universal remote, this will allow you to adjust the tracking.

Vcr has sound but no picture

Usually this means the video heads in the unit are blocked with tape debris----all you need is one damaged tape inserted and heads get instantly blocked.

Heads can be manually cleaned but you need to know how or you can try a cleaning tape----most shops charge very little to clean the heads but then you have to find the damaged tape--clean them and get picture back and if the damaged tape gets put back you are back where you started.

We have just had a digital box connected to our tv, now the VCR doesn't work. What do I need to do?

I don't think the VCR has a digital tunner so you will need a second box for that unless the box to your TV has a twin digital tunners. If the switchover has taken place in your area the VCR will not have a picture to record. Without knowing how you have all 3 connected I can't tell you much more.

The heads are inside the VCR. You can buy from your Local dealer a VHS head cleaning cassette that should solve the problem. Normally I would recommend going inside the VCR to clean it with Servisol Video 40, but in your case I would stick to the tape!

You can purchase a VCR cleaning tape that will do the job. However the best way is to buy a can of Servisol Video 40 (small one will do and it will last a long time) then remove the top cover of the VCR. Spray the VCR heads. Shinny Silver things and any moving parts that the tape touches. If your not certain what to clean, with the cover off insert a tape and press play. Remove the tape and spray small amounts on the surfaces. If you can see a lot of dust you can wipe the heads etc with a cotton bud. A VCR housed in a smokers house will need extra work to get it clean. Once dry you can test a tape. If you see flecks or spots the VCR will need further cleaning.

When I push play there are lines and rolling and I can not control with tracking .

Always best to see if a good clean will do the trick. You can do this yourself better than a cleaning tape, but you can try one if you don't like the idea of messing with the VCR yourself. If you want to do the work, then get some Servisol Video 40 (you can find it on-line). Take the top cover off the VCR - disconect from the mains first. Then spray the servisol where the tape touches, especially the tape heads. If you don't know what to spray then after you take off the top of the VCR insert a tape and press play and watch where the tape touches. Remove tape turn off power and spray. You can use a cotton bud in the tricky areas too. Allow to dry and try a tape. You might have to do the clean again depending how dirty the VCR was. If the VCR lives in a smoke filled room that will make more work to clean it.
If it still doesn't stop rolling then you might have got a head fault.

You don't say what kind of connections between the items are, but I know you can use a "Scart Switching Box" if you have scarts, to record from one thing to another. I don't know if it will be any good but you can look into it. Found on Amazon by the way, image below:

I would like to know how to connect a dvd player through my samsung vcr the inputs in the back i am not familiar with there are two sets of yellow white and red connections with one side for output and...

Connect from dvd OUT to vcr IN
The yellow connecter is video, red is right audio and white is left audio.
You can purchase converter leads (scart to phono(the red/white/yellow connecters) or many other combinations) if needed.
If you have scart connections ( a block of 21 pins) then use that if possible as it will give a better picture.
Connect the dvd out to vcr in and vcr out to the tv in.
NOTE. if you connect this way you will find that the copyright protection will make viewing dvds quite poor quality and may even be black and white or even the picture may "roll"
You may want to buy a scart block to connect more scarts to the tv then it has, also you can get these with different connections.

Did you hook the DTV box between the TV and VCR, or is the VCR in between? If you put the DTV box after the VCR, the digital tuner will block the analog output of the VCR. Let me know if this helps, and if not I will dig a little deeper.

Vcr says that there is a tape inside of the vcr when there isn't

Most VCR's do have a sensor system inside. It consists of what looks like a bar that is standing up right in the middle of the area the tape sits down into, and sensors on one or both sides of the tape bay that detect this source. The source is usually an infrared diode, and it is most likely this diode that has malfunctioned. I would checjk to see if anything has gotten inside that might be blocking this sensor, if not then the diode probably needs replaced.
