Black on lower half of screen

A black rectangle appears on the lower half of the screen. If I touch any button it goes away for about 10 seconds and returns. It doesn't appear on local channel 27 or on Videos, and on some commercials. Help me!

I tried the front lock part and ended up locked out of several stations with the black space still there. My son-in-law is coming over (soon, I hope) to see about the cable part and since the set was his before maybe he has a code to unlock the child proofing. Ill let you know. Thanks so much for the help.

You answered my problem of black rectangle. While following your instrucrions in the menu my son-in-law discovered the "closed caption" sign said it was on, but it was not showing on the screen. He turned it off and the rectangle disappeared. But after he left I discovered the child lock is now on and no way to know the code to turn it off. Can you help agaain?

My son-in-law found the Instruction book for my TV and came and figured out how to delete the child lock. Hurray! I can watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert!

This type of problems and some OSD problems are occurs due to microprocessor over modulation. One option is there. That is if you have any child lock or keypad lock or frontpanel lock. First locked the system. Now check your problem arise. If it is not OK. Otherwise try to find nearby any radio frequency cable across in your tv. keep away that cablewire also. your problem solved. Even you get Call your nearst service provider..

Black Box in the lower portion of the screen will not disappear

Check your Closed Captioning settings in the menu. I would bet money you have the "Text" feature enabled. Change it to OFF and you should be all set. I hope this was of some assistance.

Black rectangle on screen

The box you're seeing is the "closed caption' box. You need to use the remote and disable CC mode on it, and the box will go away :)

Large Black rectangle on bottom half of screen

My mother-in-law had this problem on a Quasar for two years before she finally mentioned it. The rectangle is a text box for closed captioning or for a demonstation list of features, but without the text. I restored the factory presets and poof... problem solved.

Look in the manual and find how to restore the factory settings - it will probably be some weird combination of buttons that you would never guess. On her set, which has a built-in VCR, it was simultaneously pressing "play" and "FF" (on the set, not the remote) for five seconds until the set powered down. Yours will probably be something different but equally odd. That should get rid of the black rectangle. Then you go through the initial setup and you're back in business.

Unwanted black rectangle on the TV screen

I'm not sure what type of TV you are using,, but most all Large Screens have a reset button someplace. You should be able to reset the TV and fix the problem. Its not the remote, making the image appear, but a command from it was misinterpeted. Sometimes turning the set off will work, but most often it needs to be reset.

EXCEPTION... if you are using a cable box. Disconnect it from power, wait 1 minute and then see if the problem exists. If the cable box is on even with the DVD you may still have this issue. Please reset the cable, and if that doesn't work, reset the TV.
Thanks! //D
