Control pad's are generally all or nothing devices, they either work or they're dead. However with a console of this vintage there are a few things that can cause this kind of issue and therefor a couple things you can do to try and resolve it. 1: Clean the serial ports and plugs (the ports and plugs that connect the pads to the console) with an air duster. Air dusters are cans of compressed air with a long nozzle and are available from most computer, electronics and hardware stores. Clean both serial ports even if you're only using one. 2: if cleaning doesn't work try unplugging the power cable, removing the console's casing and touching a hot soldering iron to the base of each of the pins that connect the serial ports to the PCB (Printed Circuit Board) in tern to re-solder them without using any extra solder, if you find that you do need more solder be sparing. You can see a pictorial guide to disassembling a Sega Genesis here www.takeitapart.net/archives/sega-genesis/ click the pictures to see a larger image. Lastly if you know anyone else who's in to retro-gaming swap a control pad with them to see if your pad works on there Sega Genesis and there pad works on yours. If you find the pad actually is dead it's not the end of the world, there are a few around on popular auction sites, retro gaming sites and specialist game stores pretty cheaply.

Game pad ports are usually the first thing to go on retro-consoles, repeated insertion and removal of game controllers over several years stresses the solder, especially if the previous owner(s) was a little heavy handed. try re-soldering the pins even if they look fine. If your worried about damaging it look at it this way, it doesn't work now so what have you got to lose?
If re-soldering the pins doesn't help then I'm sorry to say it is most likely that the serial controller is dead and replacing it is not a realistic proposition.

Alternatively as you only purchased it a few days ago you may be able to convince the ebay seller to take it back and give you a refund, although this is always easier if you haven't left feedback yet.

Thankfully Sega Genesis's (called the Sega Mega Drive in other markets) are still readily available, I personally prefer to buy retro-gaming hardware from specialist stores as, here in the UK at least, stores are required to provide a warranty even on hardware this old. This is obviously only a personal preference and I appreciate that such stores are few and far between.
Keep in mind that a console this old has usually seen years of service, been knocked around and often stored inappropriately for several years after, buying electronic hardware this old is unfortunately always a risk.

Ps3 pad does not connect to the console

Hello,

The problem you described seems to come from your ps3 game controller (pad). You can try a different one and see if it works.

If the game pad is charging, the ports are ok.

Hope it helps

We connected the wii u to my sons tv but nothing appears on the screen and it only appears on the game pad

Make sure the tv is in the correct input, as in, hdmi 1 or 2. I think the set up process requires you to use the pad first.

My nintendo wont work the controllors i bought new ones

Well it sounds like the controllers might be defective then you could clean the controllers out with rubbing alcohal and qutips and soft cloth and use a tooth brush too to clean them out. Buy controllers from lukie games then or jj games.

When you are charging your controller, have you tried pressing the ps button, (circular button in the middle) on your controller to synchronise controller to ps3. When charging are you seeing the red light flash to indicate charging?

Hope this helps.

A usb dance pad does not work with a ddr game on ps2 slim, is there a way to make the dance pad work with this game?

The dance pad is just a big flat controller. If it doesn't work, there is probably an issue with the dance pad, not the system.

Convert it? Theres no way to convert it. Either the game(s) you have use the D-pad or not. Some though use both pads.

PSP unresponsive

Hi Flying back,

I think your PSP may have had a confrontation with moisture. It sounds like the D-pad has one of the circuit pads shorte together full time. If one of the direction pads is always on, it will ignore the rest or add to them for a diagonal move. You need to open up your PSP and Look closely at the circuit pads for a form of short circuit across from one side to the other. you can scratch the short away if you find one. This should help. Good luck.

Control pad does not work

You should definately check the jacks for your console, that includes the controller's male and the console's female jack. If you have to, go ahead and wipe them clean with some alcohol, letting some drip in and let them air out. Its possible that some stuff has dripped inside the console's power or reset switch that caused problems with your Sega. You could try and go ahead taking the console apart, checking the terminals and stuff inside for mositure. Also, you shoudl try a new contol pad, as it definately didn't win any awards for its reliabitly.
