Garmin provides a feature called "Garmin Lock", which allows the GPS owner to assign a (4) digit numeric unlock access code or PIN to their GPS.

The PIN is designed to prevent your GPS from being used by an un-authorized user. It was also meant to be used a a deterrent to thieves, making the GPS useless if stolen.

The PIN setup can be accessed by pressing the "wrench" symbol on the main menu (Nuvi Series). Next, press the "gear" symbol and you should see a listing for Garmin Lock.
When you set up the PIN, you will be asked to enter in a (4) digit numeric code. After you enter the 4th digit, you will be asked again for the code. This is to make sure that both entries match and that verify that the PIN that you request will be the one written into memory.
Your PIN is written into non-volatile memory..... it's not a file that is accessible via USB communications between the GPS and a PC. You can't clear it by disconnecting the power or disconnecting the battery or letting the battery run down. There is no jumper or switch inside the GPS to reset it, so don't waste your time tearing the GPS apart.
Now, after you set the PIN, you will be asked to set the "secure" location. This can be anywhere.... your work location, home, local gas station, school, etc. In order to set the secure location, your antenna must be up and you have to have a satellite lock. If you don't have a lock, the "set" key will be grayed out until you acquire a lock.
The secure location is your "back-up key" in case you forget your PIN. If you have forget your pin, all you have to do is physically go to the secure location. Make sure your antenna is up and that you have a satellite lock. When you are in the secure location, your GPS will NOT ask you for the PIN when you turn it on. You'll then be able to reach the main menu and change the PIN and secure location to something else if you desire.
If you have forgot both the PIN and secure location you are out of luck. You'll have to send your unit back to Garmin to have it unlocked. Garmin may charge you for this service.
Note: If you do send the unit back to Garmin to be unlocked and you are found not to be the original owner of the GPS and it's determined to be stolen, Garmin will contact law enforcement (they're policy on this is right on their website under FAQ's).

f you are the legitimate owner, you can send your unit back to Garmin to be unlocked. Be prepared to provide rock-solid proof of ownership because Garmin has a program that prevents stolen units from ever working again. It's one of the reasons that I purchased it. As word gets out that you cannot unlock a stolen unit, thieves will be deterred from stealing them in the first place. And if you try to open the unit to see if there is any easy jumper or something, you will permanently destroy it.
FINALLY ITS NECESSARY TO SEND THE UNIT TO GARMIN OR ITS NEAREST DEALER NEAR TO YOU AS THEY CAN CONTASCT GARMIN AND GET IT UNLOCKED FOR YOU.YOU WILL HAVE TO SUBMIT THE PROOF OF THE UNIT THAT ITS YOURS .AND THEY WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER PRIVATE PIN NUMBER.THAT YOU WILL ONLY NO.NO OTHER PERSON CAN GET THAT PIN NUMBER EXPECT THE PIN CODE NUMBER LOST FROM YOU.

RATE THE SOLUTION ACCORDINGLY.THANKS IN ADVANCE.

I FORGET MY PIN # FOR THE GARMIN NUVI 660 HOW DO I OPEN THE LOCK

To unlock your unit you must go with-in 50 meters of your SECURITY LOCATION , that is the place you first setup your GPS, it could of been your home or office.

Once there the unit will automatically unlock, reset your pin number at that time in the Security menu.

If you cant get to the Security location you must send your unit back to Garmin with the proper receipts of ownership.

My garmin nuvi 660 na is locked and i cant unlock it

There should be a small pinhole for a reset button. Press and hold this reset button for 60 seconds. Then turn the device back on.

My garmin nuvi 660 is asking me for a pin and i done have it. i need help

Unfortunately, even if you perform master reset on Garmin GPS unit, it does not reset Garmin Lock security feature, which password-protect most Garmin electronic devices to deter theft. If you forget the PIN or password unlock code to unlock the Garmin unit, the best solution is to bring it to Garmin to get unlocked. “Secure Location” does not unlock a locked Garmin unit either as it’s only a temporary fix as when it’s turn on outside the security location, the device is locked again."

So unfortunately, there is only one option: You have to send your nüvi into the Garmin, who can unlock it. Remember original receipt.

How to unlock Garmin Nuvi 750

unfortunately I just called them about that and your options are to drive to the spot you set up the pin number and it will temporarily deactivate it and you can turn it off or reset it or you can send it in to Garmin and pay the $99 flat repair fee for them to unlock it. This option only works if you registered it before it got locked. You can't register a unit once it is locked.
