Try going to Device Manager. Right click on the Keyboard and choose Properties. Click on Update Driver as it might find something (let it look online also). Reboot the computer. If that doesn't work, go to Device Manager, right click on the keyboard, choose Uninstall, and reboot the computer. When the computer starts up and sees the keyboard and loads a driver(s) for it, it might fix it. Good luck.

SOURCE: key pad

If you can not use your Ctrl, alt delete keeys before the operating system loaads, then your motherboard is the problem. Replace the mainboard, and this issue will go away. Many of these units have this same issue. However, if you can use them before the operating system loads, then reload your os or attempt to repair it using your installation cd. To use the keys before the os loads, right after the dell logo appears, immediatly hit crtl alt delete. and your system should respond. LePro DCSE

SOURCE: Keyboard problem in Dell Latitude PPX C Family

Actually this is a common problem with these Dell's. I have never found a cure for it other than replacing the keyboard. Fortunally they are not expensive, you can usually get one off of eBay for around $20 or so.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: Must hold function key down.

Hmm...first, is your "scroll lock" key lit up? if it is, you activated the number key pad for your laptop. if fn + scroll lock doesn't work, try re-installing the operating system (xp or vista) although it may be a pain :(

S-Video on that model pretty much requires a direct S-Video to TV connection, then enable the TV in the Display properties. If you are trying to use an adapter, it will not work

Disable shortcut dell latitude

reply-r Jans,

In Windows XP:
To turn off hot keys go to Start Button->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services and scroll down until you find the service name HID Input Service.
Double-left-click on this service and change the Startup Type to disabled. Click Apply and then OK. Close out your open windows and restart your computer and the hot keys should not trouble you.

When i switched on my dell laptop (latitude E5500) today, it just displayed a black screen . the tiny power lights on the keyboard are blue which means the laptop is working fine ,just the screen goes...

hold the Fn Key while powering on, this will enable the PSA diagnostics, if you get any video and or the diags function then that should give you an indication of the problem.
If you only get LED lock light indications, then check here:

Keyboard trouble and heat

The Cursor jumping can be resolved by going to the touchpad properties and enabling touchcheck (Palmcheck is some drivers) this will disable the touchpad while typing.

Ad far as dealing with heat, canned compressed air blowing dust out of the air intake/exhaust will normally help cooling

Inspiron 1545 keyboard problem

This is going to sound really weird but I found a fix. I've got a Dell studio XPS laptop and was getting annoyed by the same phenomenon. I discovered the problem was more common when my thumbs were close to/touching the touchpad. I cranked down the sensitivity of my touchpad and things got a lot better. Probably works for many different kinds of laptops.

For my machin - Steps to fix:
Mouse Control Panel: Dell Touchpad Tab: Click to change Dell Touchpad Settings: Touchpad Settings: Touchpad Sensitivity: Move it from near "Light Touch" to the middle.

I hope this helps someone. :-)
