The control knob has cracked and needs to be replaced. The skirt and timing mechanism are fine. How do I remove the knob?

Have a replacement part MC 21001526 and neither it nor the broken knob has any screw fitting The Washer Model is AAV8000AGW not the 7000 as originally posted.

Pulling the knob outward meets stiff resistance and as the machine is operated by this action of pulling out the knob I was afraid to just pull it apart with force as this might damage the control main arm?

  • Mercury 372 Feb 16, 2008

You need to pop the front off the top control panel. At the back of the electrical control box to which the arm is fitted in the control panel, there is a release pin, pull outward and the knob is released.

When you pull it the control knob works;  however,  if you try to turn it,  it does not seem to lock on?  free flow?  like it has lost its attachment?  any ideas-suggestions please

Either pull it off or look for a set screw on the bottom. could be a regular screw but most likely an allen head set screw. go to repairclinic dot com for a replacement

I looked a a different site [www.partselect.com] and found the knob and skirt two seperate parts. so I'm assuming the knob part just pops off the skirt. Once you get the knob part off, removing the rest should be easy

Is the volume control easy to repair and are needed parts available?

If it is a potentiometer that controls the volume and you have some experience and a few tools you will almost certainly be able to find a replacement in one of the many constructor catalogues and be able to change it.

Modern electronics tend to just use buttons to turn the volume up or down and those have been with us for longer than we realise. In the early days of this technology the manufacturers wanted to use buttons but the buyers still wanted a nice big volume knob so there was a compromise where behind the big knob is a mechanism that presses buttons as it is turned.

I suggest you take the amp apart and take a look at which method is used. I have managed several years ago to repair such a mechanism by making a replacement pert from a piece of junk plastic.

On/off swith knob broken

Is it the actual knob that is broken or the little tab the knob holds onto that is broken. You either need a replacement knob or a replacement switch assuming the know is also the thermostat for the unit. Does that same knob control the fan speed? Temprature or timer?

Hello:
Its either your knob is stripped or the timer itself is..Most commonly its the knob assembly that's bad.(part# WH01X10061) I would try it first since the knob is only around $7.00 where the timer is around $140.00or so...

Good luck

I would first remove the fuse for the heater control head for one minute and then put in and retry.
The control head could have locked up on you with a volt spike. The rear defrost switch does not go through the same circuit in the heat as the hvac controls. Could be a broken know also.
Could also be mechanical linkage on side of heater box above accelerator pedal may have broken or popped apart. or if electrical motor control may be actuator.

The knob on my kenmore elite won't move the timer.

The knob itself turns the switch on . The skirt move the timer position. Try turning the skirt. You probably have a broken knob. On these the knob is held in place with a plastic rod inserted into it all the way. This spreads the tip and retains the knob. To get the knob off to yank out the skirt for a look see you need to pull that rod out a tad to release the knob. 88be11a.jpgThat shaft has a rounded end on it that spreads out and locks the knob on. Clever ain't it? These timers are cheaply made, if you cannot find fault with the knob or the skirt then you is gonna need a timer.

The bar isn't turning on my dyson..the belt is still fine looks like maybe something with the motor?

The DC07 has a "brush control system" operated by a knob on the right side of the base. This knob has two positions: "bare floors" (or "off") and "carpet" (or "auto"). The roller will turn only when the knob is on "carpet", and even then only when the handle is tilted back (with the base still flat on the floor). The problem is that this system uses two belts, only one of which is easy to see. If you're sure that the control knob is in the correct position, and still the roller doesn't turn, then most likely the belt that you can't see is broken (that belt goes from the motor to the clutch mechanism behind the control knob).
Belt replacement on this model is not for the faint-hearted! To see what's involved, you can go to www.dysonmedic.com then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "DC07 clutch replacement". At least you will see how to remove the clutch cover so you can check on the other belt and confirm if this is the problem or not. Then you have to decide who is to do the job!
I value your feedback, so please remember to rate this response. Good luck!
