Warranty Clock keeps appearing on its own

While watching tv the picture quality contrast will start going towards the minus and the volume will go all the way down on its own. After this occurs a Warranty Clock menu will appear let you know how long the warranty clock has been active. Lately a counter comes up and counts down. Nothing happens at 0.

Re: Warranty Clock keeps appearing on its own

Try taking a casing off and blowing the dust out with a airgun. It seemed to work for me.

Want to know how to adjust contrast

Very old set--always adjust so contrast not too high--it should always be lower than brightness---say brightness at 75% and contrast lower--if contrast set too high smearing will occur and picture quality will be affected.

TV has fuzzy piture, all colors, but contrast is awful

I think you'd have to look at how much a comparable set would cost. I know that flat screen sets are coming down in price.

One thing you could try is to adjust the focus control although if it just went all of a sudden, then this may not help. There are two controls on the flyback transformer. Follow the thick red wire from the top of the picture tube down to the transformer that it's connected to on the circuit board. There will be two controls, the upper one being focus (marked with an "f" or the word focus). Try adjusting this while watching the picture. A mirror may be helpful. At the same time, be very careful what you touch in there, any metal part could have high voltage on it. As long as you are just touching plastic parts you should be ok. A good rule of thumb is to keep one hand behind your back as you work so as you don't inadvertantly ground yourself to the chassis while touching something with a high voltage on it.

If this scares you a little perhaps it's worth taking the set to a shop for an estimate.

Picture adjustment questions

*The brightness control setting determines how bright your picture will be. *The contrast control sets the gain of the video circuit. This determines the difference between dark and light scenes. Low contrast settings make the picture "hazy". High contrast settings make the picture more distinction between dark and light scenes. *The sharpness control determine the frequency response of the video circiut. High sharpness settings give better resolution but also shows more noise in your picture. Lower sharpness settings smoothe out the picture removing noise but also fine detail. It needs to be set for the best all around picture. *Picture Enhancement is pre-set adjustments which give you different picture qualities. You just select the one you like. Stargazer

Try # 2... Green Fog

The green gun in your picture tube is set a little too high. If you are experienced in removing the back cover of TV's,etc., you may try to find the drive and/or bias controls either on the circuit board that plugs on to the neck of the picture tube or mounted on the main circuit board of your TV. These controls are usually labeled. If you can find them, locate the green bias or drive control and back it down a little while watching the picture through a mirror. A slight adjustment may correct your problem.tJIS IS CALLED GRAY SCALE ADJUSTMENT. BE CAREFUL THERE ARE SOME HIGH VOLTAGE CIRCUITS NEARBY. WORK WITH ONE HAND AND USE AN INSULATED TOOL TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS I hope this may help you.AGAIN BE CAREFUL!! Stargazer

Sony Gurus! My set has sound, screen takes long to come on.

I will suggest you put the screen control back to where it was,the unit has a lot of loose conections in the power supply, horizontal driver transformer and possibly crt board,if you keep using it like this it will go dead completly and the repair will be more expensive,be safe and call a person who is qualified and get an estimate.
