My machine is leaving black streaks on my carpet. Is there a way to know why it is doing this?

Same thing happens to mine, checked the brushes, but all I see was hair. Cleaned that out and still have the same problem. Anyone else have suggestions?

Mine has done that on occasion, but only when I turn it off over the carpet- some of the nasty dirty water falls back down... So I always put it over a towel or a non carpet floor before turning it off... does that help?

Take it outside, upside down and have a good look at the brush area. I use a garden hose to clean it after every use.
