Bose 3-2-1 - trouble connecting to Samsung 26" LCD monitor

Hi,
I have a Bose 3-2-1 system and I want to connect it to a Samsung LCD monitor. The video output choices on the Bose are S-Video, Composite Video and Component Video. I have chosen to use Component Video.
The input choices on the Ssmsung monitor are VGA, HDMI and DVI-D.
The first connection I attempted was using a cable that had component video connections at one end and VGA at the other. It didn't work at all. I know the monitor VGA port is working, as I have successfully connected two computers using a VGA cable.
The second connection I attempted was a component video cable connected from the Bose to a signal converter, which reportedly converts from component video to HDMI to enable older analogue components to home theatre systems. I then connected an HDMI cable from the signal converter to the HDMI port on the monitor. A message is displayed on the monitor, telling me the resolution is not optimal. No DVD output makes it on to the screen and the Bose on-screen menu does not appear on the screen, so I can't check or change any of the Bose dispaly settings.
Any advice on how to get this combination working would be gratefully received.
