Cable box remote doesn't work when tv is turned on.

A new toshiba 46xv545u, when turned on, somehow interferes with the IR of remote to Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD cable box from Time Warner. Remote works fine when tv is off or another tv is connected. I can get box to respond if I put remote right in front of IR eye in box, but must be no more than a half inch away. TW tech says I need to have toshiba replace invert boards. Any suggestions or recomends?

I am having this same problem with our Mitsubishi LCD Flat Panel TV, Model LT-46246 ans our Scientific Atlanta remote cable box, same model as yours. We cannot use the remote at all to change the channel. I called Mitsubishi and they said they have never heard of this. I find this incredibly hard to believe. Time Warner, our cable provider says that it is not the box because it works when not hooked up to the TV. What a pain. I would love to hear if anyone else is having this problem or has a fix for it.

Westinghouse tv turns off with rmote but cannot be turned on unless button on tv itself is used

How old are the batteries in the remotes? The on/off signal from the remote is the same. There is some lattitude in the IR reciever module for what it accepts. Low battereis may be shifting the signal's frequency or light intensity enough for it to not be recognized.

If sunlight is failing on the sensor or the remote's IR emitter, that can cause interference. Other IR devices can also interfere with the IR signal such as a "Remote Extender" being used for something else.

It may sound odd, but if your remote was working one day and not the next- was the room rearranged? If so, look around for possible sources of interference blocking the beam from the remote, or shining or reflecting light onto the IR reciever module in the set.

My dish remote for my new vizio tv only works part-time. the volume and power work, but the guide button only works less than half the time and only after holding it down for 5 seconds. i have exchanged...

judileighahl,

If you have replaced batteries and had a new remote sent out to you, either the Vizio TV is emitting an IR signal that is interfering with the remote IR signal to the receiver. To test if the TV is emitting interference, is it possible for you to turn the receiver in a direction away from the TV and see if the remote will work? If it does work after moving the receiver, that indicates interference from the TV. If it doesn't change the situation, you might check for other interference from other components (florescent lights, etc.). I hope this helps.

My verizon fios remote control stop to control the 65" cinema series toshiba tv.the remote seems to be ok.The oryginal tv remote doesnt control it also.I think that there is something wron with the tv...

Yes, most likely the sensor is at fault - more precisely it's connections to the motherboard are iffy. You must take the back cover off the tv and reseat them. While you are there check their soldering points - with age they tend to melt and get loose.

Charter Cable serviceman came out earlier today and switched the cable box that had been connected to a 46" Toshiba 1080/120 flat screen tv that was just set up a couple of days ago. The cable remote does...

I have the same problem with my 46" Toshiba Regza 46XV645U. I have Time Warner cable, with a Scientific Altanta Explorer 8300HD and a Synergy V RT-U64CP remote. I've tryed a few different boxes with new remotes and it still happens. The cable remote works the TV but not the box(unless I have the box turned 90 degrees). Once I turn the TV off the remote starts working(from what is can see on the display).

I can't program the TV remote to operate the cable box either. I think I need a different model cable box or maybe flash it or something.

TW cable remote does not work after Mitsubishi LCD TV turn on

Yes, try that. It is easy to do and doesn't cost anything. You've tried new batteries in the remote as well right? There are two types of remotes, IR (Infrared light LED is used) and RF (Radio Frequency). With an IR unit I do not see any way there can be interference as long as you don't have an IR lamp around the TV and TW DVR box. On the other hand, with RF, depending on where you live and other factors, there could well be RF interference. You'll have to locate the interference and remove it. In this day and age, things such as LED and CF light bulbs DO cause RF interference. If you use these kinds of lights in the room AND you know that the remote is an RF remote then try turning all the lights off in the room and try again.

Infrared sensor won't work in a Toshiba TV

The remote wouldn't work on my brand new 46" Toshiba TV. Comcast person said the tv gave off an infrared signal that interferred with the Comcast remote.

Solution was to turn on cable box FIRST, then TV ( now I use All On button, which turns on cable first). If I turn on TV first, the remote wouldn't work consistently. Hope this works for you.

Code for toshiba remote#ct90251 towork motorola hdtv cable box

When you program the unit, have the TV off, it is probably interfering. If possible, have the front of the cable box behind the TV. I was also told by the cable company to take the lens out of a cheap pair of sunglasses and tape it over the reciever on the cable box. This will block the interference from the TV. Haven't tried it. I have a Toshiba LCD and having it off while programming the reomote to the Motorla cabel box worked.

Set top box and remote control

My remote wasn't working until I programmed it to work with itself ... (how odd it wasn't done already).

"CBL" button and ""OK/SEL" held down simulataneously for 3 seconds ... then "001" for the Scientific Atlanta. If the unit turns off, you're in business.

Set top box and remote control

I have the same problem. When I move the 8300HDC away from the TV, or power off the TV, the remote responds. There seems to be some kind of RF interference, which makes no sense since the TV shouldn't emit RF, and the the box should be using IR only for remote input. My TV is a 46" LCD Samsung. Try turning off the TV and see if the 8300HDC responds to powering on and off with the remote.
