Question about Raymarine E120 GPS Receiver

4 Answers

Raymarine C120 I am getting a box on my fishfinder that says NO DATA and under that it says "no data source". This is a fairly new unit and I have the sounder and 4kw raydome. I just got this boat, didn't get the Raymarine manuals, and took it out the other day, it seemed to work fine but soon started giving me this error. I greatly appreciate any help with this. Re: Raymarine C120

I have the same problem on a new 5 million italian boat since 1 year. ("DSM connection lost" or "No Data") Various service technicians changed 4 times teh DSM 300 module, now they changed sensor and a cable between DSM and hub. Still the same problem. I have 24 v but a 24 to 12 converter only for this installed.
Since I am a professional captain (24 years) i only have problems with Autohelm /Raymarine products. I would never never buy or suggest them.
At the moment theYard installers are on board but despite phoning heavily with support did not yet find out the problem.
My guess is bad installation of cables (all sorts and voltages bundled up and mixed) and bad software.
probably i find out one year. it is very annoying to have the alarm (which you can t stop or turn down) every few minutes, even in harbour.

Re: Raymarine C120

You have either the DSM250 or DSM300 digital depth sounder module installed. The C80 is not seeing it.

There is an LED status light on the DSM. For starters, it should be lit either red, yellow or green to confirm it is actually powered on. We are hoping for a green light.

Double-check the cable between DSM and C80 for tightness. Also double-check the DSM's power cable for tightness.

The DSM's are sensitive to voltage level onboard. Make sure the DSM's connections to the circuit breaker panel or battery are tight and clean. Double check with a multimeter the there is 12V DC available to the DSM.

Let me know what you find.

I don't have the sounder so can't address your question directly, but you can download all Raymarine manuals for your gear directly at

Likely your DSM25 (that little box that connects the transducer to the display) will need to be rebuilt. The red LED is saying that there is an internal fault with the unit. You would need to send the unit in for repair through Raymarine (as there really is not anyone else who can do it), and they would have to replace the main circuit card in the box. I believe that they are charging either $150 or $175 to repair those now... but likely the only way you will get that one to work again.

Did you cancel the current trip and restart the GPS? Try one of your preset waypoints and see if you are getting data that way. It may just need a reset, unplug and allow it to discharge first and let's see if that does it.

C120 displays NO DATA SOURCE in the radar section of the screen. ohns resistance test checked out. what else can it be?

1. you must have the latest software 4.29 the new scanner dont work with the old Software.
2. Be shure that you have really put in the connector of the cable inside the plotter its not so easy.
try the plotter on an nother boat with an working system than you will know if its a problem with the antena or Plotter

C120 Chartplotter Auto-PowerOFF

Either it's not getting enough power on the bus or there may be a problem with the unit or something hooked to it. Remove everything but power and leave the unit on. If it powers off by itself then check your voltage, if voltage ok and the leads are not corroded, send it in. If it does not power off hook things up one by one. Leave it on each time. I've seen GPS's not provided with additional power on the seatalk do this. Even though the E-series outputs power on seatalk they made a revision in this concept and now what you to power the gps externally. That may be the only problem you're having or your seatlk bus is internally breaking down.

Raymarine A65 Shuts off Whenever it is in the mood

My A65 was constantly shutting itself off. I did the reset and the unit is working just like it should now and I have had no more problems.

Go to Setup, System Setup, then Settings Reset and press Enter. This returns all settings back to their original factory values. It should not reset your waypoints or route lists. Raymarine recommends you backup your waypoints on a separate Compact-Flash card but I didn't do that as I wrote down my all my coordinates. Hey I'm a fisherman all I care about are my fishing spots.

I'm not sure what setting it was that I changed that caused the adverse affect of the unit shutting itself off but resetting the unit did the trick. I was more careful about adjusting the display settings to my liking by doing them one at a time and waiting to see if the problem returned. It has not so far, knock on wood, and the unit is working the flawlessly now.

Sea talk failure

Remove all wiring from 4000 head, hook up only 12V, if seatalk fail continues, it is the head. if seatalk fail goes away, hook in instruments one by one until the bad head is found. Seatalk is 12V red, Ground Screen(bare wire) and Data yellow (pulsing voltage). good luck 847-746-0100 John Barry

No depth reading while on plane.

Depending on your transducer type, you may have a liquid filled type that simply needs refilling. If this is the case check for leaks and get it redone. If not it could be transducer placement or cavitation under the hull.

Raymarine A-65 unable to find satalites

If you have a loose RS12 try moving it around the deck and see if it make a diffrence. There might be something knocking it out.
If it is doing a cold start it cold take up to 10 min to get a fix. Once it has a fix it will aquire the next time much quicker.RS12's are mostly rock solid and get great fixes.
Also set the time up on the A65 to what you are at ,IE, universal time minus 5 if you are on the east coast of the US.Time set up is under the units menu. Hope this helps
