Windows 8 includes an automatically loaded updated version of Windows Defender
which is a full antivirus based on Microsoft Security Essentials.
(Windows Defender
for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 was only antispyware.)
So if you upgrade the protection
is automatic and is on by default at installation.

I have installed AVG 8 but I keep getting Messages saying I have no protection Firewall and Antivirus
It could be that the Windows security has not identified that you have installed AVG 8. Have you rebooted the computer to see if that helps? Generally, it does. I know that Windows security identifies AVG 8 because that is the antivirus product that I use and I have no problem.
