Question about Panasonic PT-51HX41 51" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Panasonic PT-51HX42F My 4 year old TV just shut off on its own. I unplugged it and plugged it back in. I turned it on and after just a couple of seconds, it shut off again. Help? There is a small red light on the front of the set that flashes like it is in a pause mode or something.

    Thanks Mike,
My husband kept thinking he could fix it himself. Your suggestion that we should get a qualified tech convinced him to make the call. Our set should be fixed Monday. Thanks!

We had service come and they actually pulled the light box out and took it away. They said 3-5 days to fix and it woud be between $300 and $500 to fix.
I don't know if this is out of line or not???
I'm still waiting for thier call to tell me the final cost.

    Thanks Mike,
I will let you know what their estimate is for the work they plan to do.

They replaced the power amp in the convergence system and charged me $460.00 which included the house call.
They kept the insides of my tv for 14 days. I probably won't go back to them for any further electronic problems. Mike, if only you worked in Michigan, my set would have been fixed quicker and cheaper! Thanks again for all you help.

Sometimes, in the Panasonic projection sets, one of the convergence IC's shorts out and draws so much current that one of the resistors next to it glows red hot. The computer senses the extra current and shuts the set back off. This is quite an easy problem to correct, but the set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with panasonic projection sets.

When I do a housecall to replace a convergence IC in a projection set, it takes about an hour to an hour and a half and I charge $150. Other shops vary quite a bit, some going as high as $400 to do the exact same thing. Of course I have no way of knowing exactly why your set is not working, but let us know what the tech says is wrong and his estimate.

I'm having the same problem with mine. You turn it on, it comes on for a split second, then shuts its self off. Let me know how much it was to fix your tv bringing it to a real technican. I'm not looking to spend a million dollars to fix the tv.

I have a 51" Panasonic Rear Projection HDTV,

Try disconnecting all of your HDMI cables and plugging the power cord of the TV into another wall outlet. If this resolves the issue, you may have had a small power surge from either your wall outlet or one of your source devices. It is recommended to connect your TV to a surge protector if you haven't done so already.
