Question about MSI MS-6547 Motherboard

1 Answer

MSI MS-6547 Motherboard

I installed a firewire card into an empty pci slot. Once installed I started my pc to no avail. I took it to a computer store only to be told my motherboard had gone and needed a new pc (as buying a new motherboard and parts would be a similar price. However i bought a replacement motherboard and have just installed it. The same thing is happening. I didn't put the firewire card in as i was unsure if that was the problem. The power comes on but just seems to power my cd rom drives repeatedly. My floppy doesn't read and the monitor is in power saving mode. All help would be great. Stevez

I think that you may have broken the ATX connector on the PSU. take a voltage meter and try ever connector. if that is not the problem, consider a new graphics card or CPU. Hopr that that helps MBERN

I have an Emachines T6532. The screen keeps "glitching" out on me. Any idea what might be causing this, or how to fix it??

DUDE! You can't post pictures like THAT!

Put sum clothes on that girl!

-> OH,....I'M JUST KIDDING! <-

1) Check the monitor cable.

If attached to the monitor, use the monitor, and cable on a WORKING computer. Same thing? Need a different monitor.

Use a KNOWN to be working monitor cable, if detachable; on your computer.

No? Monitor cable is good?
Go on.

2) We are dealing with a graphics problem.
Next in line is the graphics chipset.

The eMachines T6532 Desktop PC uses an MSI MS-7207 motherboard. Also known as the MSI K8NGM2-L,

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/K8NGM2-FID--IL--L.html

Clicking on the photo shows a MUCH better view.

You have two white PCI slots at the Bottom, (PCI1 and PCI2), and a white longer PCI Express x16 slot above them.

[The shorter white slot above the long white PCI Express x16 slot, is a PCI Express x1 slot)

Integrated Graphics is also known as OnBoard Graphics.
A term that seldom seems used anymore. Too bad because it explains better.
ON the motherBOARD.

The graphics chipset is part of the motherboard chipset, which is Soldered TO the motherboard.

If the OnBoard Graphics of the motherboard is suspected to be bad, the tech will then use a graphics card; and bypass the Integrated/OnBoard graphics.

You have your choice of using one of the white PCI slots, if available; or the white PCI Express x16 slot.
Posting in case you have a graphics card sitting around.

Anti-Static Procedures are FOLLOWED, with your unplugged from power computer. The graphics card is physically installed.
Monitor attached to graphics card.

When you turn the computer on, the graphics won't be perfect. This is because THE graphics drivers for THAT graphics card; has not been installed yet.

Will sort of look 'Fred Flintstone-sih'
(Color quality will probably be set at 8 bit, instead of 16-bit; and Screen Resolution will be wrong)

That's OK. Right now you are just trying to get graphics.

I'll guide you through installing the drivers.

Post back in a Comment.

How can I add firewire to my HP s5730f slimline when the pci express slots are blocked? Is there a pci card I can use to add firewire?

Hi, yes, you should be able to add a firewire card that goes into a spare PCI slot inside your computer. I have provided some links for you to have a look at.

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/__pci+firewire+card_W0QQ_dmdZ2?rvr_id=225057574812&crlp=2874201279_284591_284611&UA=WVI7&GUID=55fa9e2812f0a5aac495e335fff88dad&agid=1381991649&tm_kw=pci+firewire+card&siteid=3&MT_ID=11&tt_encode=raw&keyword=pci+firewire+card&geo_id=21&ff4=284591_284611

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=firewire+800+card&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=6983137693&ref=pd_sl_5zy4ohv55t_b

http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Peripherals/cat/USB-----Firewire-----I---O-&-HBA/subcat/Firewire-IEEE--1394-Cards

When you say your pci express slots are blocked, do you mean that you have a card, likely a video card, already installed in your pci express slot? You should have available pci slots anyway and you can purchase a fireward card and install it yourself. If you are unsure about this then you can do a search on youtube as there are lots of how to videos on there regarding this type of installation. Good luck. Andrew

We have an emachine w3400 and need and new video card but don't know if it is PCI standard or PCI express how do i find out?

The eMachines W3400 desktop computer has an MSI MS-7145 motherboard.
(MSI = Micro Star International, Inc)

This is the MSI MS-7145 motherboard,

http://www.e4allupgraders.info/dir1/motherboards/socket754/msi7145.shtml

The MSI MS-7145 motherboard, has one PCI Express x16 expansion slot, which is used for a graphics card.

Viewing the bottom left of the photo, you will see three white PCI slots.

Right above them is a longer white slot.
This is a PCI Express x16, expansion slot.

Scrolling down to the subheading - Expansion Slots,
You will see - One PCI Express 16x slot, listed.

Should you require information in installing a PCI Express graphics card, or information on which PCI Express graphics card may fit your needs, state so in a Comment.

I don't know what version is my MS-6547. I want to upgrade the CPU (currently running P4 2Ghz) I know there's a description of each version somewhere here, but this one doesn't sem to adjust to any, First,...

Roberto,
Well I can say its a socket 478 P4 and you can probably only upgrade to about a 2.4Ghz P4 , probably not much of an upgrade, better to build or buy a new PC for around $500-$600
