Question about RCA P52929 52" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Buttons dont respond correctly

TV works fine at times then randomly the menu pops up and stays on. When this happens, the remote stops functioning and the channel buttons act as they would but pressing them also causes the menu button to be pressed, the volume buttons cause a screen to be shown that displays "P:0 1.09 V:0" pressing the Volume buttons then changes the V value from 0 to 254... Dont really know what to do except to press 4 of the buttons in at the same time and itll funciton fine until the menu randomly comes up again... please help

Re: Buttons dont respond correctly

Sounds like one or more of the keypad buttons are sticking - That would also cause the remote control to stop functioning. When you saw "P:0 V:0" you somehow managed to put the tv into the service menu. Pull the keyboard away from the plastic buttons and make sure nothing is in the way.

Menu box keeps popping up pushing clear or the menu button only stops it for a few seconds

Keyboard issues and answers:A problem that is more common than most people think is anissue with buttons on the controlkeyboards of modern TV sets.Recently for whatever reason I have seen more questionsabout this so I have composed this answer and solution for these kinds ofproblems. It can be any button on the set-channel up/down or volume updown-you name it.The symptoms are the same: channel will scan up or down andwill not stop-remote control has no effect on this---It can be channel, volume,or even input or menu if the set has those up front or on the side of the set.All these push controls have something in common-beneatheach is a tiny momentary push switch-when pushed with the plastic button itperforms a specific task (vol up or down etc.).What happens is the afflicted switch beneath the plasticbutton is bad-when released it is supposed to stop its function but does not.Keyboard or button controlled features have PRIORITY over the remote control, hence the remote will not stop this fromhappening. Both the remote and thekeyboard go to the microprocessor in the set but keyboard is first in line. How to resolve this issue?Someone needs to get at the tiny pc board with the buttonsand locate the one associated with the issue (ie sound or channel etc) andunsolder that switch from the board-usually just two pins (may be more formounting only purposes) and then see if set does not have the issue with switchout of the circuit. For the TECH minded with the board out test here theswitches with a ohm meter set to high resistance-any reading with button notpressed means a bad switch-seen ones that read 5,000 plus ohms-it may benecessary to unsolder more than one switch to locate the offender here but an open reading with switch not pressed is therule.I have taken the time to compose this answer as some do notunderstand what is happening in these types of situations---No magic wand orsmoke and mirrors here-have to disable the offending switch to know. The beauty (in my view) of this kind of problem is if found, you really do not have to replace anypart-just operate the set with the remote with one button that no longerfunctions on the set itself-who could ask for more? I have a Sharp flat panel model LC-20SH4U. The units power LED light is red. No effect (sound or picture) when remote or on/off switch is activated. The LED light slightly blinks.

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.

1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

Hope this may help;

No sound, remote locked or not working?? and i cant get the menu to work on the tv itself, the volume is stuck on 0, cant move HELP

The buttons on the front of the set fail, (like mine did) even if they never get used. Probably the 'DOWN Volume' in your case is stuck closed. Try pecking on it first. My remote stopped working but so did the manual buttons too. While poking around on stuff I swished my finger across the buttons and it all started working so I knew I was on to something. I never figured out which one was the culprit as it continued to cause problems and was replaced as a complete unit under warranty.

The other quick check/fix is to remove the trim plate around the button plate (pop out stays like the speaker covers) , then remove the button assembly (3 screws plus pop out stays like the speaker covers) then unplug the multi colored lead from the button circuit board. This puts the Remote back in control and it will work just fine like this, minus manual control of course.

Inputs randomly stop registering, screen goes blank

Code 12 indicates no error. Push the Menu and Device buttons after the TV has shut off to get the proper code, not after you unplug and plug it back.

It seems your set is not Mitsubishi WS-55819 so it will help if you can give the exact model.

TV is not responding to the remote control.

The set may have defaulted to a front panel lockout. To defeat that on the front of the set hold down the MENU button for 15 seconds and see if it will then power up. I know that doesn't solve the problem with the remote but one step atta time. These sets are prone to leaky switches on the control panel and when that happens the micro cannot accept two different commands at the same time. That could be why the remote is not working.
