Re: honeywell envirocaire hepafilter model # 13520

We have this air filter for about 8 years and we have 2 of the filters and wash one while the other is set to be washed. We use bleach to kill the bacteria. They are ready though to be thrown away.

the foam cover filters the large dust particles and can be washed. It serves to prolong the life of the expensive hepa filter element. Leave it on.

I want to change filters. please help

Hi and welcome to DixYa, I am Kelly

The only two parts requiring any service are the activated carbon pre-filter and the HEPA filter. No tools are needed. To change either filter, disassemble the unit as shown.
1. Loosen the carrying handle by turning it counterclockwise and lift filter cage cover from unit.
2. Lift HEPA filter and activated carbon pre-filter from the base.
3. Remove the fasteners from the activated carbon pre-filter and remove it from the HEPA filter cartridge.
4. Replace filter(s) as needed, and discard used filters.
5. Wrap the activated carbon pre-filter around the HEPA filter cartridge and secure it with the fasteners provided

How to change the flter

Turn off the unit and unplug it. Turn the air purifier on it's side and unscrew the locking mechanism (turn counter-clockwise) on the base of the unit. Remove the base assembly from the unit. Remove the filter assembly and find the seam of the pre-filter. Carefully separate the fastener and then remove the pre-filter from the HEPA filter.

Discard the filter(s) being replaced. Then remove the new filter from the packaging and discard the packaging and plastic. Carefully wrap the pre-filter around the HEPA filter so that the ends meet. Fasten the ends together with the fastener.

Place the filter assembly in the air purifier and reattach the base. Then tighten the locking mechanism. Turn the unit right side up, plug it in and turn it on.

You can find a pdf of the manual here: .

I hope this helps.

Hi my old Honeywell 13520 has acquired a periodic squeal. I am sure it is a motor issue. Any way to tune up these little motors? (Brushes, etc..)

Usually if the motor is squealing, the bearings are dry no lubrication and worn. If you have oil ports you can oil it and quiet it down for a while. Most motors now have self lubricated or oil impregnated bearings, which you can't lubricate. It costs as much for somebody to replace the bearings, as it does for a new motor. Most people replace the motor.

Clicking noise

I had the same problem.

We could put one cell in and it worked with out clicking. Putting the second one in solo however, it was clicking.

I looked closely at the second cell and discovered that two of the vanes on the side with the wires were bent at about 20 degrees off. Adjusting this and reinserting reduced the clicking but not completely. I pulled the cell and focused on the same two vanes and discover one was also bent in, gently pulled it back and no more clicking!

My wife had cleaned the filters and my 6 yr old and 4 year old had to help. I wonder how they got bent?!

We have had the cleaner for about 6 yrs and no problems until this last cleaning.

Be very careful in adjusting the cells. Aluminum does not like being bent and weakens each time it is moved, like pulling a tab off a beer can (of course the cells are made from much thicker and higher grade aluminum)!
